I dedicate this to 6HI and Ms. Mackenzie. They have helped me a lot.

Narration
A snowy day in Yukon leads little Nuvia to jump out of bed and sprint across the igloo. She runs to wake up her parents and her brother. She barges in and screams,
"There's snow! There's snow! Wake up!"
Her brother woke up and his face lit up like a star. He runs to look outside. He smiles and sticks out his tongue so he can catch a snowflake. Nuvia makes snowballs and proceeds to hit her brother with it. Her parents watch them and talk. Her mother calls Nuvia and her brother in to eat breakfast.

Nuvia's Perspective
Chapter 1
It's Snowing! I can't believe it! MOM! DAD!
"There's snow, wake up!" I yell.
"Snow?" my brother said.
"Yeah!" I spoke.
My brother's face lit up like a star. We both ran outside and jumped into the snow. We were playing until our mother called us in for breakfast. I was starving. Looks like mom made Bannock. I adore Bannock. While I was eating, I hear a knock on the door. I run to go get it and I see our neighbor, Miri. Miri was a lot older than my mom, but they were really good friends. I thought she was here to chat with my mom, but when I saw the look on her face, I knew this wasn't a normal chat.

"Can I come in?" Miri asks.
I nod my head and hold the door open. She immediately walks over to my mother and whispers in her ear. They both sit down.
"Can you go outside with your brother please? I need to talk to Miri about something." my mom asks.
"Can I listen too?" I speak.
"No. Can you just go outside?" My mom asked.
I grab my brother, and we head outside. About an hour later, I see Miri leave. I run up to her, but she just looks at me with pity and walks away. I know something is wrong.
Chapter 2
I go inside and sit down next to my mom. She has tears running down her face. I want to know what happened, but I don't think it's the right time to do that. I wait for her to cry it all out.
"I will always love you and you need to remember that." my mom says.
"I love you too." I reply.
I get up and walk over to my dad. He has a confused look on his face. I can't hold it in anymore. I need to know what's happening.
"Dad?" I ask.
"Yes?" He speaks.
"Why are you and mom so worried? What's happening?" I ask.
My dad doesn't say anything. He just looks at me. I ask him one more time.
"What's happening?" I ask again.
"There are people coming to our village that want to help you learn new things. They will help you read. They want the best for you." he says.
"That seems fun. What's so bad about that? I ask.
"They want to take you far away from us, far away from home. You won't see us every day.
"I'm not going with them, right? I want to stay with you." I speak.
"We don't have a choice." My dad says.
Chapter 3
I run to my bed. I can't believe my own parents want to ship me off somewhere. I don't want to leave my parents. My mom walks to my bed and sits down. I look at her with puppy eyes.
"Please don't send me with them." I speak.
"Who's them?" my mom asks.
"Dad told me that they are taking me away from our family." I speak.
"What? I told your father not to tell you!" my mother said with anger in her voice.
"Well, dad told me, and I don't want to leave you." I said with tears rolling down my face.
"I won't let them take you." My mom says firmly.
"How? They will take me." I say with a confused look on my face.
"I will hide you." My mom said.
"Mom, you can't do that. You'll get in trouble." I spoke.
"I will protect you, Nuvia. You just have to believe me." my mom said to me with a sparkle of belief in her eyes.
Chapter 4
Someone knocks at the door. I run to get it but then see my dad talking to someone. I'm not able to see them clearly, so I walk up to the door, but my mom pulls me back and doesn't let me go.
"Mom, let go of me. Let me see who it is!" I plead.
"Stop! That's the Indian agent. Don't make a sound." my mom says.
Me and my mom stood in silence. What's an Indian Agent? My mom watched my dad closely. Making sure that he was saying the right thing. Then, I hear my dad saying that he doesn't have any kids.
Why is he saying that? What's happening? The person at the door leaves and my dad closes the door with a huge sigh of relief.
"Mom, Dad, what's going on? What's an Indian Agent? Why did dad say that he doesn't have any kids?" I ask.
"Nuvia, the person that came to the door was an Indian Agent. They are sent by the government so they can take you away from us. If we let them see you, they would take you away to a school called Residential School. They would try and make you more like them. Me and your dad don't want that to happen to you so, we lied and said that we don't have kids." My mom said.
"Okay. I love you all." I spoke.

Chapter 5
The next day, there's a knock on the door again. I watch my dad open the door. As soon as I see my dad's face, I know it's the Indian Agent. I stay back and see my mom. She looks at me and I mouth to her that the Indian Agent is here. She slowly tiptoes over to me and stays by my side.
"Listen to the conversation, I can't really hear them." my mom says,
I nod my head and listen closely.
"I need to search your house." The Indian Agent says.
"I won't allow that. I need to see a letter from the government." my dad says.
"I am coming back tomorrow, and I better not see any kids in this house." the Indian Agent says as he leaves.
I see my parents stare at each other with a worried look on their faces.
"We are finding you a hiding place. Let's go look for one right now." my mom says.
She takes my arm, and we walk around our igloo. Looking at different places. We can't seem to find a place. My mom is starting to stress. I see Miri standing in front of her igloo and she waves at me. Me and my mom walk over to Miri.
"I saw the Indian Agent at your house. What are you doing?" Miri asks.
"We are hiding her." my mom says.
Chapter 6
"Where are you hiding her?" Miri asks my mom.
"I can't find a place; I don't want to lose her." my mom says with distress.
"Why don't she come and hide at my place. They will check me first and I would be clear. Once they knock on your door, send Nuvia and her brother here. They will use the back of the igloo to leave your house and enter mine. I will take care of them, don't worry." Miri says.
"Miri, you don't know how much this means to me. Thank you!" my mom says with joy.
My mom explains the plan to me and my brother.
"Ok. I know what to do." I speak.
"Hold your brother's hand at all times. Got it?" My mom asks.
"Yes, yes. I will." I speak.
"I am trusting you with your brother." My mom says.
"Yes, I know. I'll look after him" I say.
Chapter 7
The next morning is here. This is the day they could take me, but I will escape. I run to my mom, and she reminds me of the plan.
"You know what to do right?" My mom asks.
"Yes, I know. Just, calm down. Everything will be okay" I say with comfort in my voice.
"I just don't want to lose you." My mom says with fear in her voice.
"You won't lose me, Mom. I will always be with you." I speak.
I hear a knock at the door. The Indian Agent is here. It's go time! I grab my brother's arm, and we race out the back of the igloo. We started to walk to Miri's igloo.
"Whew! The hard part's done, right?" I ask my brother.
I don't hear a response. I look beside me and see that no one's there. WHERE'S MY BROTHER? I start to panic. I forgot to hold his hand. How could I do such a thing? I see his footsteps behind me. He must have gone back. I follow the path and see that it led me back to our igloo. I see him standing right at the entrance of the igloo. Oh no! I have to go get him or mom and dad will be in big trouble. I run to the front and push my brother out of the doorway. I signal him to go to Miri's house. I am about to go after my brother when someone stops me.
Chapter 8
I look up and see the Indian Agent.
"Who's this?" the Indian Agent asks.
My parents look at each other with guilt in their faces.
"I knew you were lying to me. This is your kid." the Indian Agent says with anger.
He grabs my arm and drags me out the door. My parents stand in front of the doorway. They try to fight back, but with no luck. The Indian Agent pushes them out the way and continues to drag me.
"Let me go! Let me go! Stop!" I scream.
My parents run out the door, but the Indian Agent places me in his dogsled.
