Neil Armstrong was born August 5th, 1930 in Ohio, Wapakonata. When he was first six, he flew on the Ford, Tri-Motor with his dad, Stephon. To him it felt like it was a dream come true. After that day he loved flying. He joined the Boy Scouts when he was younger and earned the Rank of The Eagle Scout witch was the best rewarding in Boy Scouts at the time. He grew up with two siblings, Dean and June and was the eldest of both of them.
Early Life



Neil Armstrongs family moved several times when he was younger and he ended up settling in Ohio, Wapakonata when he was thirteen years old. He got his pilot licenses on his sixteenths birthday and became a naval air cadet the following year, making his 16th birthday his most specialist to him! Later years he attended the Blume High school in Wapakonata. Then, In 1947, Armstrong attended Purdue University on a Naval scholarship, and as part of his scholarship, the Navy trained Armstrong as a fighter pilot in Florida.

In 1950, his collage studies were interrupted by the Korean War. Neil viewed the war as the highest threat to the military combat. Neil Armstrong earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Purdue University. Neil Armstrong became an astronaut after a distinguished career as a naval aviator, test pilot, and aeronautical engineer, culminating in his selection for NASA's astronaut corps in 1962, where he later commanded the Apollo 11 mission, becoming the first person to walk on the moon.He retired from NASA in 2002 living with his wife, Janet. In his adult hood, he mainly lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. From 1971 to 1979 he was professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati (Ohio). He also served on the National Commission on Space (NCOS), a panel charged with setting goals for the space program, and on the Presidential Commission on the Space Shuttle Challenger Accident, the group appointed in 1986 to analyze the safety failures in the Challenger disaster. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1969, the Congressional Space Medal of Honor in 1978, and the Congressional Gold Medal in 2009.

The Korean War


One of Neil Armstrongs major accomplishments is the mission to the moon. He worked very hard with NASA to get the Apollo 11 to get up and running. On the moon, he deployed scientific instruments, collected surface samples, and took multiple photographs. He worked with his co-pilots Edwin E. “Buzz” Aldrin and Michael Collins. On July 21, after 21 hours and 36 minutes on the Moon, they lifted off to the earth with Collins.

Neil Armstrong has made a strong contribution to the world.
He was the first one to step on the moon in 1969 which was a huge moment in his life and in history. His mission to the moon showed the whole world what people could do with science. They can hard work, and have strong courage. He even helped scientists learn more about the Moon by collecting information from the moon like rocks, pictures, and samples. After his trip to space, he became a teacher and worked to help others learn about space and science.
