Taraweeh Prayer in Ramadan in Qatar
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a time of fasting, worship, and spiritual reflection. One of the most beloved acts of worship during this month is the Taraweeh prayer, a voluntary prayer performed after the Isha prayer. This practice dates back to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who prayed Taraweeh in congregation.

In Qatar, mosques are filled with worshippers who pray between 8 and 20 rak’ahs. Taraweeh is a chance to reflect on the Qur’an and strengthen one’s faith. It becomes especially significant during the last ten nights, as Muslims seek the blessings of Laylat al-Qadr, the holiest night when the Qur’an was revealed.
Ramadan in Qatar also emphasizes community spirit. People gather for prayers and share iftar meals, with mosques and charities providing food for those in need. Taraweeh prayers reflect the essence of Ramadan—faith, unity, and seeking Allah’s mercy.
Gargaan in Qatar
Gargaan is a traditional celebration in Qatar, taking place on the 13th, 14th, and 15th nights of Ramadan. In 2025, it will be celebrated from March 14 to March 16. This event is especially enjoyed by children, who wear traditional clothing and visit neighbors to sing songs in exchange for sweets and nuts.
Cultural Significance
Remas Amer
Gargaan plays an important role in preserving Qatari heritage and promoting community spirit. It helps pass down traditional songs and practices to younger generations. The celebration also strengthens community bonds, as families share treats and enjoy the festive atmosphere together. Additionally, Gargaan celebrates the children who are beginning to fast during Ramadan, marking a milestone in their spiritual journey.

During Gargaan, children wear colorful traditional attire, sing folk songs, and go door-to-door to collect sweets and nuts. Families warmly welcome them, sharing treats as a symbol of joy and generosity.
This celebration is an important part of Qatari culture, promoting social bonds and passing down heritage and traditions to future generations.
