The Artivist

This is a story about a young boy who starts to see the things in his world that are not fair for everyone. He decides to create art in his community to help people see the good in themselves and each other. He becomes an activist through his artwork . . . an Artivist!

I learned that each person, whether that person is young or older, can help to make a difference in the community. We all need to look for ways we can improve our world when we see injustice in our lives. Creating beautiful and meaningful artwork can help people make positive changes in their lives and communities. 

Love is Powerful

This is a story about a young girl who participates in a march by creating and holding a sign written in crayon, "Love is Powerful." She and her mom walk with a huge crowd of activists as they chant her message. This is a true story about a little girl named Mari. She marched in the 2017 Women's March in New York City.   

I learned that young people can promote change and equality through simple acts of nonviolent protests. When your message is clear and filled with kindness, others will catch on and follow.

Malala: My Story of Standing Up for Girls' Rights 

Written by: Malala Yousafzai

This is a memoir about a girl in Pakistan named Malala Yousafzai, who was taught by her parents to stand up for what she believes. She showed bravery and determination as she fought for girls' rights to a good education in Pakistan. Even though she gets hurt by some who do not want others to hear her message, she continues to fight.

I learned that when we believe strongly in something, like educational equality, we can courageously speak up and protest against intolerance so that others in our community can benefit.
