The Case of the Missing Ring

I am Selena Hopsimmer, and I am one of the most famous detectives. It all started one week ago. I was sitting next to the fireplace solving a crossword when there was a knock on the door! I walked over and saw none other than my best friend, Marina Norage.

“Hi, Selena,” she said. “Guess what? We've got a mystery to solve!”

“What’s the mystery about?” I asked, getting excited. I was so determined to find out that I couldn’t even let Marina finish her sentence.

“Hold on, Sel!” she said.

“Oops!” I replied, turning a bit red. “Sorry!”

“Never mind,” she said. “The case was reported by Her Majesty. It happened two days ago in Winchester, Hampshire. It was around two o’clock in the morning when it happened. Her Majesty thinks it’s a servant.”

“Well, what are we waiting for?” I shouted, grabbing my notebook, pen, magnifying glass, hat, and coat. “Winchester, here we come!”

“Calm down, Sel! It’s a long way to Hampshire.”

“Oh,” I said. “Don’t worry, I’ve already booked the cab.”

I rushed out the door, leaving it wide open. “Never mind,” said Marina, grabbing her coat. But I didn’t even hear her because I was moving so fast.

I slumped back in my seat as the cab started off. “Go on, Mar, tell me more about the case,” I said.

“Well,” Marina began, “someone stole the Queen’s ruby ring.”

“So how did it happen, Mar?”

“I don’t know. Let’s ask Her Highness.”

As soon as we arrived at the castle and were waiting for Her Highness, the door opened.

It was the Queen. “Hi, guys, welcome in! Cook, please bring some of your best biscuits and three cups of coffee. Please settle down, Marina and Selena.”

She sat down in a chair.
