Chapter 1

In the windy abyss of the snowy terrain in the Alaskan wilderness stood Charles Mahanney looking at his burning cabin! The cabin was all that Charles had. He had just gotten out in the nick of time. Charles had left on his stove because that was his only source of heat. He only woke up when half of the cabin was already gone and knew he couldn't make the repairs. With himself being in the lonely place that he was, he knew he would have to make a 150 mile trek to the city of Juneau.

Charles was able to recover some of his items such as: his backpack, gun, flint and steel, water bottle, and axe. The first thing he would need to do is to make sure that he knew which way to go. He knew that if he followed the river it would lead into the city. The river although would not be a straight shot. This means that he would have a longer way to go but it would be the way not to get lost. He began his journey by packing all of the items in his backpack and walking down to the river to begin his trek to Juneau.

As he was walking down the stream getting ready to hunt for something to eat. He heard a loud growl that sounded like it was fifty yards away or so. He was thinking about starting a fire quickly to try and scare the beast away. As the beast came closer he was aware that it was a bear! He became afraid and thought his journey might end there. But he thought to himself I just have to make it through this to keep going down the river.

Charles quickly ran behind a tree to try and see if he could outsmart the bear. Since he was in the snow he thought that his smell would not be as pronounced. As the bear came closer and closer he ducked down behind the tree. He thought to himself, "Will the bear see me?" The bear came closer, it got as close as the tree next to him. It did not see him and he proceeded to wait and watch the bear continue on his way. He now wanted to go on his way to Juneau.
Chapter 2

After 5 long days of traveling Charles had not even made it halfway to his destination. He became increasingly colder and colder. He also needed to fuel his body with some food and luckily enough he saw some ptarmigan in the snowy trees. Although he would have to be very precise as he attempted his shot at food. The ptarmigan become camouflaged in the snow turning their feathers white. But, Charles was determined to get a couple to have some dinner.
