The Old Woman’s Kitchen

     Once upon a time, in a quiet village, an old woman and an old man lived in a cozy little house. One rainy afternoon, the old woman said,
 “I will bake something sweet to cheer us up.”
       She mixed flour, sugar, butter, and spices. Carefully, she shaped the dough into a little man and gave him raisin eyes, a candy smile, and buttons made of chocolate.
 “What a lovely gingerbread man!” she smiled.

             He Jumps from the Oven!
      She placed the tray in the oven and waited. Suddenly—BANG! The oven door burst open!
 The gingerbread man jumped out, shouting,
“Run, run, as fast as you can! You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man!”
        He ran straight out the door.
“Stop! Come back!” cried the old woman, but he was too fast.

                         The Chase Begins
      The old man heard the shouting and joined the chase.
“I want to taste him!” he yelled.
 But the Gingerbread Man laughed and ran faster.
 Down the road he went, waving his tiny cookie hands.
 “You can’t catch me!” he called joyfully. 

                    The Cow Joins In
Soon, a big brown cow saw him.
“Moo! You look delicious! I want to eat you!”
“Oh no, you won’t!” shouted the Gingerbread Man.
“I’ve outrun an old woman and an old man, and I’ll outrun you too!”
 He dashed ahead, and the cow ran after him.

                      And the Horse Too
 A horse grazing nearby looked up.
“Neigh! A cookie on the run? I must have a bite!”
“You can’t catch me either!” said the Gingerbread Man.
 Now the old woman, the old man, the cow, and the horse were all running after him, but he just laughed,
“Run, run, as fast as you can…”

                                  A Clever Fox
      At the edge of the forest, he met a fox sitting by the river.
“Well, hello,” said the fox calmly.
“Why are so many animals chasing you?”
“They all want to eat me!” said the Gingerbread Man.
“I see,” said the fox, licking his lips.
“The river is deep. I can help you cross.”
The Gingerbread Man hesitated… then climbed on his tail.
