THE TUNNEL
They were just taking a shortcut, her parents said. The road curved wrong, the woods thickened,
and then they found it- an old tunnel breathing cold wind, its entrance cracked like the mouth of
something ancient.
'Let's take a look,' her father said, and laughter followed them into the dark.
Chihiro hesitated. She felt it- this place had teeth.
THE EMPTY TOWN
On the other side was a town of abandoned stalls, food steaming, no one in sight. Her parents dug
in, calling it free.
But the food wasn't for them.
When they changed- twisting, squealing, shrinking- Chihiro ran. Not from them, but from the truth:
they were already too late.
THE WITCH OF STEAM
She found the bathhouse beyond a river that wasn't there before. Inside: a thousand spirits and one
witch, Yubaba, who stole names like locks of hair.
'I'll let you work,' she said, 'but your name is mine now.'
Chihiro signed the contract. Her name faded.
THE BOY WITH TWO NAMES
There was a boy- no, a dragon- named Haku, who knew her from another life.
'You saved me once,' he said. 'You called my name when I had none.'
But now he was lost too, trapped, his real name forgotten.
They were both ghosts, walking in borrowed skin.
THE SPIRIT OF GREED
She let it in. A spirit with a white mask, silent as moonlight. It followed her like a shadow.
When it opened its mouth, it offered gold.
When she refused it, it swallowed the bathhouse whole.
Greed always grows teeth.
THE TRAIN ACROSS WATER
To fix what was broken, she rode a train that slid across flooded tracks. Ghosts boarded and never
spoke. She held her breath for the entire ride, afraid to breathe something that didn't belong to her world.
THE WITCH’S TWIN
At the end of the tracks: Zeniba, the twin Yubaba never spoke of.
She offered Chihiro tea and truth.
'Names are heavy,' she said. 'They leave marks when they're taken away.'
She gave her a charm woven from threads of love- and memories she thought she'd lost.
THE TRIAL
Yubaba set a final test: find your parents among these pigs, or lose them forever.
Chihiro looked into their eyes. All of them. None blinked.
'They're not here,' she said.
And for the first time, the bathhouse was silent.
