In spring, Emma visits her grandparents to celebrate her birthday.

With her grandmother, Dolly, Emma heads to the garden! Dolly creates the most beautiful flower crown for Emma.

Later that day, Emma hugs her grandparents goodbye. Emma and her parents then drive several hours back to their home.
Bye bye!

I'll miss you!

Emma tries to make the flower crown again like Dolly did, but is not able to. She tries to call Dolly through FaceTime, but Dolly does not know how to use it.

In summer, Emma’s grandfather dies. Emma and her parents attend his funeral with Dolly.

In fall, Emma and her family visit Dolly again to celebrate Thanksgiving.

It's been difficult to go out as the days have gotten colder, I feel trapped in this house sometimes...My legs ache, and I've been using a wheelchair more and more.
How have you been, mom?
Inside, the house is a mess!

Emma goes outside into the gardens. Dolly doesn’t come with her. Outside, however, many of Dolly's beautiful plants have died and the flowers are no longer as vibrant.

Back inside, Emma finds Dolly crying in front of a picture of Emma’s grandfather. Dolly doesn’t notice Emma.

Later...

I'm worried about grandma, she seems so sad. Can she not come live with us?
What's wrong honey?
I don't think grandma would want to move and come live with us, Emma. Either way, we don't have room for her.

It’s winter, and it’s Christmas Eve. However, there are heavy blizzards outside Emma’s house. Emma’s parents discuss how it will be impossible to drive in this weather.

I'm so sorry mom. I don't think we'll be able to come visit you this Christmas.
Ohh...I see...Of course, you shouldn't risk the blizzard. Especially not with Emma there.

Is Sarah still going to throw her Christmas party?
No, the snow has made it impossible to walk outside, and the snowplow is late as usual. Everyone is staying in.
At school, Emma tells her friends about Dolly's situation and her concern. To Emma's surprise, her friends have similar experiences! Their grandparents also live by themselves and they also share Emma's concern. Emma gets an idea!
