To every student who carries more than one language in their heart , may you always know that your voice matters, your story is powerful, and your words are beautiful in every tongue.

At home, Marisol’s world danced in Spanish
Marisol loved hearing her mamá sing lullabies while cooking. Her papá told old stories that made her heart warm. Spanish words filled their home with music.

At school, Marisol spoke English. She answered questions, read books, and made art. But sometimes, her Spanish words tried to peek out.
When they did, kids would giggle. Teachers would slow their voices, as if Marisol couldn’t understand. She felt smaller each time.

One day, a boy said, "Wow, she’s actually smart!" after she answered correctly. The words stayed with Marisol like heavy stones. She stayed quieter after that.
Marisol tucked her Spanish deep inside her heart. It felt safer not to show it.

One bright morning, the teacher announced, "We will have Storytelling Day!" Students could share a tradition from their families.
The classroom buzzed with excitement. Marisol's heart filled with worry. What if they laughed again?

That night, Marisol sat with her mamá at the kitchen table. She didn’t know what to share. Her mamá gently reminded her, "Your words are beautiful, mija."
Marisol decided to tell about her abuela’s magical garden. It was her favorite place in Ecuador.

She practiced mixing English and Spanish, just like at home. Sunflowers were 'flores.' Butterflies were "mariposas"
The night before Storytelling Day, Marisol whispered her story over and over, hoping they would carry her courage.

Morning came fast. Marisol wore her lucky bracelet.
In class, she listened as friends shared their stories. Food, dances, family trips. Now it was her turn. Marisol walked slowly to the front. Her hands trembled a little, but she gripped her paper tightly.

She began, "In my abuela’s jardín, sunflowers grew taller than my tío." Her voice shook at first, but then grew stronger.
She spoke of mariposas, of music, of tortillas warm from the oven. Spanish and English danced together in her story.
