In a tiny village, in a crooked little cottage, lived a boy named Eli and his mother, Mira. They didn’t have much, but their home was filled with love and warm soup.








Every night, Eli would look up at the stars and dream. “One day,” he whispered, “I’ll be a great king who helps people.”
Mira smiled as she placed a soft hand on his head. “You already have the heart of a king, Eli.

The next morning, Eli made a crown from paper and string. He wore it proudly as he walked through the village
Look at him,” some children laughed. “You’re no king, just a poor boy with a silly hat!”

Eli felt a little sting in his heart, but he held his head high. “A real king is brave and kind,” he said.



That day, he helped an old woman carry water and read stories to younger kids by the well. Even when people laughed, Eli kept being kind.













One afternoon, dark clouds rolled in. Rain poured, and the river near the village began to rise fast.
The villagers panicked. “The water! It’s going to flood our homes!” someone cried




Eli took a deep breath. “We need to work together,” he shouted. “Let’s build a wall of stones and sandbags

Cristina Garcia Alcala is a 12th-grade student at Carroll Senior High School. She was born in Mexico and now lives in Texas, where she has spent most of her school years. Cristina enjoys playing the flute, running in the early mornings, and spending time with animals. Her passion for animal care and science has inspired her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She hopes to one day become an accomplished veterinarian, helping both pets and their people live healthier lives. Cristina’s dedication, creativity, and love for learning continue to guide her toward her dreams. This is her first published work, marking the beginning of many more to come.
