Far away, in a land where snow never melted, there was a small village called Hladgard. The sun only came out once a month, and even then, it didn’t stay long. Most days were cold and gray. The wind always blew hard, and it sounded like it was singing sad old songs.

The people in the village were quiet and serious. They didn’t smile much. Life was hard in the cold. But there was an old story that some still remembered. It said that one day, someone would come with a warm heart—a heart that didn’t freeze. That person would end the winter and bring back the sun.

Most people didn’t believe it. They thought it was just a fairy tale. But one girl did believe. Her name was Eira.

Eira was fifteen years old. She lived with her grandmother in a little house near the edge of the village. Her parents had disappeared ten years ago when they went into the mountains to find a way out of the frozen land. They never came back.

Eira often looked at the mountains in the distance. They were big and white, and they always looked cold and scary. But Eira wasn’t scared. Sometimes, she felt like the wind was calling her name.

One night, Eira woke up because she heard a soft sound at the door. It was very late, and everything was quiet. Her grandmother was still sleeping. Eira got out of bed and opened the door. No one was there. Only the snow and the wind.

But then she saw something shining in the snow. It was a small necklace in the shape of a snowflake. It was glowing with a soft blue light. Eira picked it up. As soon as she touched it, she felt warm inside—like she had a fire in her heart.

The next morning, something strange happened. The ice inside their house was melting. Her grandmother looked better than she had in years. Outside the window, a little patch of ground had turned green.
