It was a typical night that then turned into a night that my friends and I will never forget. My twin sister Kyra and I were with our best friend Makayla celebrating her 18th birthday. We went out for our favorite food which of course was mexican. Following tacos and queso for dinner we decided we wanted a sweet treat as well. Whitey’s for ice cream was the final desicion as it has the best shakes in the midwest. After we got our shakes we headed over to the dance studio across the bridge so Kyra and I could practice our jazz duet that we would be competing in just a few short weeks.
We finished practicing and hopped in the car ready to drive home and convince our parents to let us have a sleepover even though it was a school night. Kyra and I were arguing back and forth about who’s turn it was to drive. However, I ended up taking the driver's seat and Kyra was so irritated that she decided she would sit in the back. Makayla took the front passenger seat and tried to lighten up everyone's mood by finding a playlist to listen to on the way home. While Kyra was mad and ignoring us it was time to make our 25 minute drive back home.
I turned out of the studio and began going down the long road. However, the weather wasn’t the best to be driving in as it was snowing and sleeting out. I went to take the next left and the turn was at a slight angle. The car began to shake and you could feel it vibrate. At that moment all I knew to do was break but that only made things worse. Before my eyes I could see a tall pole and it looked like we were going straight for it. Trying to control the car I heard yells “pole, pole, pole” from my best friend sitting in the passenger seat. Although I was trying my best I felt like no matter what I did I had no control and there was nothing I could do. The next thing I heard was a loud boom. I looked up and quickly realized we were turned the wrong way in the middle of the road with airbags and ice cream everywhere. I yelled “get out of the car.” We were all scared and my phone was lost in the car with music blasting. The worst part was the song “Tonight's going to be a good night.”

After realizing what had happened we were all shocked, scared, and didn’t know what to do. Looking at the street you could see the car in the middle of the road with a telephone pole that had rolled off the car, airbags popped, ice cream everywhere, and the front end smashed in. Looking in the parking lot we were next to made it feel more real with car parts scattered in the parking lot. Kyra and Makayla were on phones calling for help while all I could do was stare at what had just happened. Finally it hit me and the tears were uncontrollable. What was supposed to be a fun celebration night turned into one that my friends and I will always remember.
