Resam Mohamed is a twelfth grader at Carroll Senior High School. She was born in Egypt and now lives in Texas. Resam enjoys shopping, trying new food places, and driving around with friends. Her dream is to one day be a mom.
Senes Clark is also a twelfth grader at Carroll Senior High School. Senes was born in California and now lives in Texas. Like Resam, Senes loves to shop, explore new restaurants, and take long drives. Senes’s future dream is to become a mom, and her friend Resam describes her as a well thought-out and careful writer.

It was a bright, happy morning at Buttercup Elementary.

Annalise walked into school in her favorite red shirt and purple skirt, with glittery hands and a smile that didn’t quit.

Luke was under the big oak tree, lost in the plants and there cool colors.
Lisa lined up her pencils perfectly. Everything had to be just right.

Leroy zoomed into class, upside down in a cartwheel. “Arrr, me maties!” he yelled.

Lisa started a new Friendship Club. “Only neat snacks and calm games,” she said.

Annalise couldn’t wait to join. “I’ll bring sparkly cookies!” she cheered.

Lisa tilted her head. “Maybe… but no glitter. And wear matching socks.”

The next day, Annalise came to school in beige. No sparkles. No giggles.

Indeed.
Indeed.
Annalise copied Lisa’s neat posture, trying hard to fit in. She sat up straight and said, “Indeed,” just like Lisa.
Lisa whispered, “She’s still too… much.”

Annalise ate lunch by herself. Maybe I am too much, she thought.

Luke joined her. “I missed your glitter,” he said.

You’re the only one who laughs at my pirate jokes,” Leroy added.

Annalise felt a warm bubble grow in her chest.

“The Friendship Club will have a Talent Show!” Lisa announced.

Only quiet talents,” she added. “No silly stuff.”
“No loud acts. Calm talents only.”
