Robert Joshua Price was the son of Thomas
Garland and Nanny Greer Price. Robert
married Leona Reese and they had the
following children:
Frank Leslie Price
Sadie Mae Price
Robert L Price
William H. Price
Dorothy Elise Price
James Reese Price
Harry Greer Price
Lois Vivian Price

Robert Joshua Price was called Poppa Bob.
Their son Robert L. Price was killed in France.
With the money received from the
serviceman's insurance Poppa Bob purchased a
dairy farm on Sun Creek Road, north of
Starkville Mississippi, near the property Poppa
Bob's Grandfather, Thomas Price had
purchased in 1855. Living in the country. all
the boys were particularly fond of hunting and
fishing. Frank was the oldest boy and all the
others looked up to him. Most people had
nicknames which was a tradition in Starkville.
Frank's nickname was shorty, but they called
him that behind his back because
He did not take kindly to it. The other boys had
to suffer with whatever nickname they got. Jim
Price's nickname was Fagan. Harry's nickname
was Fuddy. Bill's nickname was Sir Dugan. The
girls had nicknames too. Sadie May was called
Icey and Dorothy Elise was simply known as
Sis. Some of the names were not nice and we
have forgotten them.

around the house on Suncreek Road
As the oldest son, Frank was among the first
working. He worked on the Railroad for a time.
All the boys loved to hunt and Frank had a
friend that was a researcher at Mississippi
State University. Their Department of Animal
Husbandry was trying to revitalize the English
Setter breed of Dog. One famous dog that
came from this family of dogs was named
Mississippi Zeb, who was the most famous field
trial dog. Frank was able to get a bloodline
descendant of Mississippi Zeb. They named
the dog Price's Doctor Sam. All of Franks
brothers
And cousins had hunting dogs from this most
famous line. Frank's dog, Price's Doctor Sam
was widely reknown for it's heritage and
hunting skills. Many who did not understand
Frank did not realize that siring this dog
probably provided a great deal of the family's
living during the great depression. Those that
didn't understand thought Frank was cruel to
dogs when actually he loved them and
continued this breed. Frank was very generous
to others. My own dad, Bill Price Jr. had a
puppy that was a descendant of Doctor Sam.

Jim Price liked to hunt coons. He would have
rather had a coon dog than a bird dog, no
matter how valuable the bird dog was. Jim's
nickname was Fagan. He died in 1967. We
were sitting at Harry Price's house with Frank,
Bill Sr., Bill Jr, John Didlake and myself after
the funeral. Harry told a story about Fagan. It
was in October on a very cold night. Fagan was
thinking about buying this famous coon dog
but wanted to try him out before he gave the
guy the $500 asked. This was in the 1930's
and $500 was a lot of money. The owner did
not
want to let the dog go hunting with Fagan in
case something were to happen to such an
expensive dog. He relented however when
Fagan offered a $50 retainer in the event
something were to happen to the dog. At that
point Gertrude, Harry's wife came in and put a
pint of whiskey on the table. That was when
the story took a wierd turn. Fagan apparently
didn't want to buy the dog in the first place, he
just wanted a dog to hunt. So anyhow he forks
up $50 and off they go to the swamps to hunt
coons.
Coon hunting is a serious artform. It takes
years of experience to learn how to sit around
a campfire and listen to a bunch of dogs
chasing a coon through the woods. The more
practiced of the hunters claim they can tell
their own dogs though generally most probably
can't even tell their own names by the time
the dogs detect, chase, and tree a coon. The
object is to knock the coon out of the tree and
let it fight all the dogs. I have never seen
anything that resembles
