Who was Sally Ride?
Sally Ride was the first woman to fly in space. She was not only that , but also was the youngest person to fly in space at the age of 32. Ride loved to play tennis, learn in science, and promoting STEM ( science , technology , engineering , and math) . Sally Ride also joined NASA in 1978 and flew on the Space Shuttle Challenger STS-7 mission.

Sally Ride was born on May 26, 1951. Ride was born in Encino , California . She had 1 sibling, her sister who was named Karen Bear Ride. Sally Ride's childhood was filled with love for science and some sports, particularly tennis. In the fall of 1970, Sally transferred to Stanford University, where she was one of only a few women majoring in physics. She also was the top player on the women's tennis team. She graduated in 1973 with a double major in physics and English, and continued at Stanford to earn her master's degree in physics in 1975.

Sally Ride was married to Steven Hawley and had 1 dog named Seagan. Sally Ride lived in Los Angeles and La Jolla during her life.
