Exposition

A boy named Jack Merridew was on a plane going on vacation with his family. A long side to them were other people hoping to reach the same destination. However only the worst was to come and everyone's nightmare occurred. It was now only kids to survive on an island alone.

Jack starts by exploring the forest and he realizes that there is other life, animals. He is determined now determined to kill and hunt. By doing this, he leaves the group of the other boys that are stuck on this island, not realizing that there's more necessary problems needing to be solved.

Exposition

You only care about hunting!! What about us and getting off this island????

Nobody's gonna find us. Why waste our time on something stupid!

Rising Action

Jack and one of the other boys, Ralph, got into a big argument because of Jack's determination to go to the woods. Ralph believes that they should stick together and make shelter alongside figure out ways to get the attention of any planes that may fly by. Yet, Jack claimed that hunting was more important than anything Ralph was suggesting. (SparkNotes)

Rising action

Jack gets his first big kill, and instead of him being happy and excited, he feels different. He drops to his knees and stares at what he had just done. In this moment, he starts to realize one of the Ten Commandments of Christianity, "Thou shalt not kill"("Exodus").

The other boys hear a scream as they were planning on what to do and how to get off the island. They realized it came from the woods where Jack normally was. They started to search beyond the trees which lead them to Jack. 

Rising Action

After seeing Jack, one of the boys, whose name is Ralph, goes up to and hugs Jack, comforting him while not knowing what had happened. After Jack felt the warmth, he calmed down and looked up, confused, as to why Ralph would be hugging him, when he had been rude to them the entire time.
