Dedicated to Mr. Novak & his block 2 class

It was a calm fall evening in 1620’s England when a young girl named Sarah and her cat, Whiskers, were set to travel on a ship called the Mayflower with their family for the new world.
Sarah and Whiskers were impressed by this grand ship made of wood, but also a little scared for what would come of the journey.
“Don’t be scared, we will have an even better life in the New world” Sarah’s dad reassured her.
As days went on, Sarah began exploring the creaking ship that would have to take them a long ways from home. Eventually, Sarah got sick of the fishy smell but her cat, Whiskers, loved it…
As Sarah and Whiskers began to become impatient, Sarah asked her mother
“Will we be on this ship forever?” Her mother replied excitedly
“No, it’s an adventure and we will see how far it takes us!”
One day on the ship, huge waves began to crash against the ship getting almost everything wet, including Sarah and Whiskers! Which Whiskers didn’t enjoy very much…
Every night, Sarah (and Whiskers) would help her mom make dinner on the ship, which usually consisted of a lot of fish, grains, and biscuits. Most of the time, everyone on the ship would share their food so they could all enjoy the delicious meals.
To pass time, Sarah would read books about pirates and princesses to Whiskers, other children on the ship, and their pets. She would even make up magical stories about the new world to get other children, including herself, excited about their new home.
After 66 days, which seemed like an eternity to Sarah and Whiskers, someone on the ship exclaimed
“Land ho!” Which was followed by many cheers and tears of joy. Sarah and Whiskers were very anxious to see what their new home would look like.
Sarah and Whiskers looked beyond and saw beautiful green trees and sandy shores to which they were excited about. Eventually, these pilgrims would name this wonderful area Cape Cod.
As the Fall season began to appear in the cold air and orange leaves, Sarah’s family, as well as many other families aboard the Mayflower, began to build houses and eventually villages.
As winter came about, the cold was unlike what Sarah and Whiskers had ever felt before, although the village was almost complete, the harsh conditions and food scarcity worried Sarah and the other pilgrims.
During the day, Sarah, and Whiskers, would try to help out wherever they could to make their family’s work load easier in these tough conditions. They would help chop wood and even harvest crops when not in school.
One day, Sarah and Whiskers went exploring in the woods, but to Sarah’s shock she couldn’t find Whiskers when trying to go back home! She began to search and call out
“Whiskers! Where are you!” But there was no sign of him…
