To anyone who's felt stucck behind a screen and didn't know how to stop... This is for you. You're stronger than you think, and you're never alone.

Elif was sitting on the bedside, staring at the screen of her phone. It was already after midnight, but the last thing on her mind was sleep. Thoughts swirled in her mind as she scrolled aimlessly on social media. Suddenly an advertisement appeared:
"Try this game now! An exciting adventure awaits you!"
She was momentarily hesitant, but her curiosity got the better of her. The game had vivid graphics and almost addictive sounds of victory.
“I'll just play for a bit,” she thought. But as time passed, Elif became completely immersed, her sense of time disappeared. Winning made her heart beat with excitement, losing made her feel empty.
The following day at school, her eyes were red and swollen. As her friends were laughing and chatting during recess, Elif leaned against the wall and stared at her phone. Her best friend Melis nudged her gently.
"Elif, what are you doing? You missed yesterday's group project."
Elif numbled without even looking up:
"I forgot... I'll catch up later."
Melis just sighed and walked away. Elif didn't even notice this. Her mind was still on the game. The late night gaming sessions had left her exhausted and school was becoming less and less important.
Days blurred into each other. Elif stopped participating in group activities, skipped assignments, and avoided social gatherings. One afternoon, her teacher called her aside after class.
"Elif, you haven't turned in your assignments this week. I've noticed you seem distracted lately. Is something going on?"
Elif lowered her gaze, mumbling, "No, I'm just tired."
But it was more than just fatigue. A heaviness seemed to cling to her, pulling her further away from reality.
One weekend, her mom knocked on her door.
“Elif, breakfast is ready. Why don’t you come out for some fresh air?” Elif snapped,
“Just leave me alone! I’m busy.”
Her mom quietly closed the door, a worried look on her face. Elif didn’t even notice. The game had become her refuge from the real world, even if it meant pushing everyone else away.
One evening, Melis called.
“Elif, let’s go out for a walk. You need a break.”
Elif didn’t even think before replying,
“I’m busy, Melis. Maybe later.”
As the called ended , Elif felt an unsettling emptiness. It hit her suddenly—when
was the last time she actually spent time with Melis? Or any of her friends, for
that matter?
Just then, a new game notification popped up:
"Congratulations! You leveled up!"
But this time, there was no rush of excitement—just a suffocating sense of guilt.
The next morning, in math class, Elif’s vision blurred. Her hands trembled, and she
could barely breathe. Panic welled up inside her, and tears streamed down
her face. Melis, sitting next to her, whispered,
“Elif, are you okay?”
Unable to speak, Elif just shook her head. The teacher noticed and approached
gently.
“Elif, why don’t we step outside for a moment?”
In the counselor’s office, Elif finally let it out—how the game had consumed her
life, how she felt disconnected from everything, and how lost she’d become. The
counselor listened patiently, then spoke with a reassuring tone:
“You’re not alone in this. Admitting it is a huge step. Let’s figure out how we
can help you move forward.”
That evening, Elif gathered her courage and talked to her family. Her mother wrapped her arms around her, wiping away tears.
“We’re here for you,” she said softly. “You don’t have to go through this alone.”
