Good Morning Successful Scholars!
We have a new student, lets introduce ourselves then get started on today's skills
.My name is Sofi, I am 7 years old and I live in Memphis, Tennessee. I go to a public school, which people often say is a bad thing... but in my opinion it's a great thing! I love my teacher and all the cool things I learn about the American English Language.

My name is P.G. and I love my classroom. When I make mistakes during our lesson, guess what..? I don't get embarrassed. Ms. Simelton always says, "this is a space for safe learning, make the mistakes here, so I will know how to help you."
You know, it took awhile, but I finally get it! And now when I participate, I am not scared to make mistakes!

My name is Nya and I have fun learning in school. When we work together as a class, things make a lot more sense! And our teacher, always has funny ways to teach us new cool reading skills.
Hi everyone, my name is J.J. I'm kinda nervous about today. And Ms. Simelton, I don't know my letters or sounds yet.
It's great to meet you J.J.
Today we will go over our agenda and review a few phonemic awareness skills before we go to the lesson.
Be sure to pay attention, we will go over the quick lesson as a class.

By the way that's okay! Some of our students will demonstrate the different awareness skills you can use to become a stronger speller and reader.
Before we begin, you all have 15 minutes to complete our morning message. We will review what you wrote as a class.

Excellent! When I get down to 3,2,1. I need you all to read the first sentence to me.

The boys are strong!
-strong
-str|o|ng
The girls are brave!
-brave
-br|a|ve
3,2,1...

Amazing job Scholars!
We are moving on to our Phonemic Awareness,
who would like to explain to J.J. the skills we are focusing on?

The boy is strong!
-strong
-str|o|ng
The girls are brave!
-brave
-br|a|ve
Sure! My name is Lissa and I love this skill. Just ask me a question, I'll know it and on the small chance I don't know, no worries, I will ask!

Can you help me understand what we're doing today ?

Remember, Phonemic Awareness is blending sounds into words, segmenting words into sounds, and deleting and playing with the sounds in spoken words.
Will y'all give me a few examples?
I think I'll be able to understand it more after.

This is how you segment the word, cat. The word cat: c | a | t.
The letter "c" and "a" are not a vowel team, so you seperate the letters and should hear two specific sounds so far are /k/ & /a/. When adding the letter "t" at the end, you will hear the consonant /t/ sound.

Good job! Someone has been paying attention this year. Who else can demonstrate?
