Morgan and Juliet walked calmly out of the crowd's sight. Willows and oaks rustled above them, occasionally releasing acorns from their shaggy branches. Juliet was quiet for the first time in her life. She didn't talk until Morgan paused at her home. And only then did she whisper goodbye. Neptune was inside, reading Venus and Pluto a story. Mercury sat by the fire she had created, studying a tapestry.
Morgan slowly sank into an armchair beside the family pet. She was a tabby cat from the world Morgan's kind lived. Her name was Kate, and she loved Morgan most of all. Neptune put down the scroll she was reading to the two dragon twins and led them into the kitchen where she gave each a cookie made from the bakery down the street. The bakery was owned by Juliet's mother and father, whom had recently accepted her as an employee.
Morgan was very nervous. She had no idea what the Games of Magic really were, and she knew that Juliet was in no mood to talk. It was her working hour at the bakery, and Juliet was a sucker for a scrumptious treat. It always felt so quiet when she was apart from her very best friend. It was as if she had been swallowed up by loneliness and then spit back into her boring old home.
A feeling of pain slowly grew in Morgan's chest. It felt like watering a garden with all your hope and love, but then the weeds take over and dominate the land. Neptune and Mercury were sitting beside each other, looking into the fireplace. A small flame crackled and glowed in the looming shadow of the two dragons. Pluto and Venus had been practicing their magic in the living room, and had stained the rug a bright cherry red.
The good thing about having dragon parents was that they didn't exactly care if you trashed the house. Morgan stood up and gave Kate a squeeze before staggering off towards her very own bedroom, the only place she had that was all hers. Mercury and Neptune had built it with their own claws. Venus and Pluto weren't allowed inside, so Morgan's room was the cleanest place in the house.
Morgan stumbled through the doorway, suddenly feeling quite dizzy. The world was spinning and shifting before her eyes. She clumsily ran towards her bed, throwing herself on the mattress. Her eyes began to close..and before she knew it, she was woken up in a familiar forest.
