Rudy was starting his first day of 1st grade at a brand new school, Lincoln Elementary.
He was already nervous about starting a new school and a new grade.
Rudy asked himself, “Will the school be like my old one? Will people be nice to me?”.

Rudy got to his class and met his new teacher, Mrs. Braden.
Mrs. Braden seemed nice and she had a big smile.
His classmates were all talking and asking each other how their summer was.
The class seemed kind enough, maybe this year would not be so bad.

Rudy met all his new classmates.
They all seemed nice, but Rudy was shy so he did not talk to many people.
One classmate stuck out to him and her name was Christina.
Christina made sure to smile and say hi to Rudy everyday!

Rudy was in 1st grade for 2 weeks and he really liked it!
The only part that he did not like so much was ….. snack time.
Everyday the class listened to a story and ate snack.
The only problem was, Rudy never brought one because his mom said they did not have enough money.
So, Rudy sat alone at snack time while the rest of his class ate their tasty snacks.

Christina noticed that Rudy never ate snack with them.
Christina went up to Rudy and asked “Why don’t you eat snack with us?”.
Rudy put his head down and replied “I never have one to eat. My mom said we do not have enough money for it.”
Christina smiled and said “It’s okay, do you want to share my chips with me?”.
Rudy had the biggest smile on his face!

Christina went home after school and had a confused look on her face.
Her mom asked her what was wrong.
In a low voice, Christina asked “Mom, what can we do if someone in class does not have enough money to bring snack?”.
Christina’s mom smiled and said “Let’s invite some of your friends and parents over, I have an idea!”.

When everyone got to Christina’s house, her mom told everyone her idea.
They talked about how even though they were fortunate enough to be able to have snack, not everyone else was.
They decided to have a snack surprise where each family donated a different snack to leave in the classroom.
That way, everyone has a chance to have a snack during story time.

The next day at school, everyone was bringing in boxes and bags of different snacks.
Rudy prepared for another lonely snack time when Mrs. Braden made announcement.
Mrs. Braden said “We are going to do something different today, everyone go to the table and pick a snack!”.
Rudy’s eyes lit up, would he really have a snack like everyone else?
