To my fellow elementary school teachers who are also trying to keep our students engaged!

StoryJumper is an interactive website that allows students to put their hard work into something they can be proud of! Students have the opportunity to take their work and make it into a digital story. They have access to props, scenes, and have the ability to read their text aloud for others to listen to their story. It is a free to use website to create a story, but if they want a copy of it, it starts at $2.99 for a digital copy and goes up to $27.99 for a hard copy of their story. It is very easy to use and a great tool to help students get their thoughts out and into a story!
I absolutely love this tool and have so many ideas for its use within the classroom. Each week my students produce a new piece for their book they are creating and at the end of the 6 week unit, they have a whole book to produce. Students can take the book they have wrote and put it into StoryJumper and create a whole story out of it. They can add images and back ground music while also being able to take their own art work and upload it as well into their story. This could be students end of the unit project and I could assess them on this based on their story they completed.
Another idea that this could be used within my classroom would be as a small group tool. Within this website of StoryJumper, there are already published books that are available to listen to. This allows students to be able to read the books, and it allows them to listen to the books. This aligns with the UDL, because it meets all students where they are at. If a student struggles with reading, they have the option to listen to the story and have it read to them.
PROS:
There are so many pros to this website. The first one would be the fact that students have the opportunity to turn their work into a completed piece. This gives students that sense of confidence that they can publish their own book. Another pro is how easy it is to access, and the amount of tools that are within it. Students would have so much fun adding images and scenes to their stories. Also, the fact that students have the ability to upload their own artwork is a big pro. This will allow students to feel like the author and the illustrator.
CONS:
There were a few cons that I found when looking throughout this tool. The first con was the fact that if you want to publish a book, you have to pay for it. You still have the ability to share your book, but even to digitally download it you have to pay. Another con that I found was the limit on the props they have. I was searching for a green check, but there was no way that allowed me to add that. I guess I would have to draw it myself and upload it as artwork!
Resources:
"The wide range of customization options make it engaging and versatile platform for storytelling." (Nirmit, 2025). StoryJumper makes creating a story very engaging. It also allows students to share their story in a different light. Being able to add sound effects and background noises to reading their story really enhances the story telling side of this.
Resources:
A review from 'How to Homeschool' says, "The Library includes books that been created and publicly shared by other StoryJumper members (e.g. students, parents, grandparents, teachers, etc.). After they read and listen to books from the library, they can provide supportive comments/feedback". This is something that I thought was a great addition. Not only does this website allow students to write their own stories, they can read other peoples stories as well. This is a great way for students to get ideas, or just see what others students are writing about!
Resources:
A review from 'Teachers First' writes, "ENL and ELL students will be able to use the site easily, and will learn appropriate sentence structure and add to their vocabulary by selecting new items to put into the graphic." I agree with this 100%. I know my ELL students would enjoy this. Also having the ability for them to listen to the stories is a great way to keep them engaged!
