thank you to my friends and family

Chapter one
At The Village
Maya lay on her bed trying to wake up when Luna comes in and jumps on her bed purring. It was a cool summer morning. She finally got up and went for a walk. She passed by the popular bakery and stopped by for a blueberry tart (that is her favorite treat.) She went into the kitchen to help out a bit. “Hey mom, need some help?” Her sister walked in. “Of course we need help, are you crazy?” her sister exclaimed. “Hey, calm down, Rose, she is just asking. Yes dear, we would love help,” her mom said, watching Maya eat her tart. Suddenly Mr. Rat burst through the door out of breath.
“ What happened to you?” Maya asked, as blueberry jam dripped down her chin. “Your cat got into your snack drawer and is in the vet room. She ate all your cookies.” Mr. Rat was still trying to catch his breath. “What? Oh my goodness! I will be back soon mom, got to make sure my cat is okay.” Maya sped through the patches of berries. Getting inside the veterinary room Maya saw Luna sleeping soundly with her mushroom toy in her mouth. “Is she okay?” Maya inquired. The vet looked up from the tray of thrown up cookies and said, "Yeah, she is okay, she just needs to be on a diet and you need to hide your snacks,” the vet said. Maya nodded in return. Maya took Luna in her arms and left for home.
She put Luna in her kennel and went to the bakery, stopping by her father’s blacksmith shop to talk. She then went home after a long day at the bakery and her cat having eaten a lot of cookies. She fell asleep as soon as her head touched the pillow with Luna curled up beside her.
Chapter two
The Letter
A bang on the door wakes Maya from her wonderful dream about big fluffy cats. “Who is it?” Maya asked, as she got out of bed and went to the door. “It’s the mailman; you got a personal letter so I came here instead of going to the post office.” Maya looked confused. “A personal letter? All my friends and family live here. Who in the world would send me a letter?” He just shrugged and handed her the letter. “The letter says Victoria. Who is Victoria? I don't know any Victoria,” she muttered to herself. The letter read, “There is a gem of knowledge in a cave north of the village.
Be quick and don't tell a lot of people about this. You can tell three to five people but no more.” She thought about what she had just read. Who is Victoria and why did she tell her this? What would happen if a lot of people heard about this? She was going to go, but she had to tell the family members who could keep secrets and that could come with her. As she was walking to the bakery she saw a feather out of the corner of her eye. She turned to see no one there. “Huh,” she thought. She got to the bakery and told cousin Cally and her sister and her parents about the quest.
She headed to the house of Beth whose real name was Bethany (Beth is her bff .) She picked Beth, Cally, and Luna to go with her. Yes, she did pick her cat. She thought she would regret it, but she didn't later on.
Chapter three
The Quest
As Maya packed to leave for the adventure, Luna would not move from her bed. So Maya couldn't grab some clothes she had placed there, and it didn't help that it was almost a hundred degrees out there, and her air conditioning wasn’t working. She bribed Luna with treats and led her to the kennel and went back to working. After two hours she finished and went to go onto the boat, but she grabbed Luna before they left. She had almost forgotten her cat Luna. “Hey everyone, are y'all ready to go on an adventure?” They all said yes very enthusiastically.
Luna meanwhile was not happy at all about being on a boat. It was awhile before they reached land, but they made it to a mountain. It was on the map. They started walking up the mountain, Luna in Maya’s backpack, Cally holding a bat, and Beth just happily prancing around. The wind was getting stronger, so they took cover in a cave from the blizzard that had started. Once they got in, Maya took a stick and made a tiny fire. “Wow, That was crazy!” Beth said, putting her hand close to the scorching hot fire. They wanted to sleep, but the ground was of course cold.
Maya was trying to find some blankets she packed, but that was the only thing she forgot. “Oh no, I forgot the blankets. I'm sorry.” But she looked over and saw them already asleep with the extra clothes they packed. “Well that will keep a bit of warmth,” she said to herself, and laid down next to Luna while the cold blizzard raged outside.
Chapter four
The Tiger King
When they woke up the next morning, they heard snoring from an animal, but Luna was awake. “Where was it coming from?” they thought. Cally peeped over a stone and was shocked to see a tiger as white as snow sleeping peacefully. She stumbled back and sat down looking terrified. "There is a tiger in there! We should leave quickly,” Cally said in a low voice so it wouldn't wake the tiger. “But we can’t leave, there is a blizzard outside; we’ll freeze!” Beth exclaimed. “What if we sneak past the tiger and close ourselves off in another entrance?” Maya said.
Beth and Cally looked at her like she was crazy. “ What did I say?" Maya asked confused.
“ How are we supposed to get past that tiger without waking him up?” Cally asked. Beth nodded her head in agreement. “Maybe he is a nice tiger,” Maya said, fidgeting with Luna's fur. There was a sudden growl. The tiger king was awake, and had found the girls sitting there. “I guess we are about to find out if he is nice,” said Beth, holding her torch up. “Get out of my lair, you fools!” growled the tiger.
Luna walked over to him and clawed his leg. Then he looked at Luna and walked off.
“That was weird,” said Cally, and they watched in shock as the tiger left. “We should leave quickly,” she said, as she packed.
“The boat dock should be nearby,” Beth said, helping Maya put Luna into the bag. They left the tiger king all alone. “But not for long,” thought Luna as she sat in the cat pack.
Chapter five
The Rescue
They reached the dock and got a fishing boat. They had paid for it with food, but it was the last of their supply. Luckily there was a shop nearby and they paid for some apples, a fishing rod, a fire starter and wood that totaled up to $10.75. They paid for it with some stone and gold they had found in the cave. “I guess it worked out alright, girls,” Maya said. “Yeah, but now I cannot make us gold necklaces. I will find more on the trip, right?” Cally said. Seeing that Beth looked upset she asked, “ What is wrong?” “There is no gas in the boat,” Beth said, sulking.
“Come on, let's go get some. How much is it?” Maya asked. "I think we should talk to the owner about this. I will be back in a second,” said Cally calmly. Later on Cally returned with some of their old supplies and two cans of gas. “Wow, what did you tell them?” said Beth, grabbing a pear from Cally. “I just told them to give us gas and two baskets of our supplies or lose the ship entirely,” Cally said confidently. “You're crazy, but I'm glad you got the stuff. Let’s go before dark.” They got on the boat and left the little town. A sudden storm struck, sending everyone flying. They tried to stay on the boat but the waves were really strong. “Grab on to the side!” yelled Beth going under.
“I tried, the pole is too wet. I slipped,” Cally said, slipping off the log that was supporting her. “Look out, it's a whale!” Maya yelled, ducking under the waves. The whale sent Maya flying, leaving Luna to float in her backpack that was slowly filling with water. Finally another boat found them and saved them, but Maya was still panicking trying to find Luna.
Chapter six
The Unicorn
As they searched for Luna they heard a faint meow in a box. They checked the box and there was Luna, soaking wet from the salt water. She hissed, then realized it was Maya. “You're okay, Luna! I thought I would never find you,” said Maya, picking her up. “There's the little kitty. Now let's get back to another boat,” said Cally, wiping Luna with a towel. “Okay, where shall we go? What if we go to the boat people that saved us?” So they walked over and got a boat, then left. They reached a coral reef and heard a pony. “Was that a horse?” asked Beth, who liked horses.
“It sounded like one, but why would horses be in the ocean?” said Cally, picking up a spy glass. “I don't see anything. Wait, what was that?” said Cally, pointing at the shadow. Luna hissed and went inside and left Maya, Cally and Beth standing there, waiting. A swift shadow told them it was something big. A giant unicorn burst out of the water. “Why are you here? You-what do they call them again? Oh, humans,” said the unicorn. “Hi, me and my friends bring no harm.” “Call me Misty, and I shall let you pass on one condition: I get to follow you to shore. I am so very lonely,” said Misty. Then she watched them, studying their every move. “Yes, we agree and we love your mane,” said Cally, the non-fashionable one.
So it was a surprise to hear her say that. “Thank you,” Misty said, as they moved in the boat. As Misty followed, Luna finally came outside and meowed at Misty. “I guess Misty understands the cat,” said Beth laughing at Luna and Misty talking to each other. Cally, Beth, and Maya laughed all the way.
Chapter seven
The Accident
Maya was resting while Cally steered the boat and Beth was playing with Luna. Misty had left an hour ago because another unicorn named Titan, a sea unicorn, fell in love with Misty and Misty fell in love with him too. “You know, I'm glad Misty fell in love with him,” said Beth. “Yeah, she was so lonely but I do miss her a bit,” said Cally as she stopped the boat. “Guys, there is water coming into the boat, hurry!” said Maya, running out of the cabin with water dripping off her pants. “The boat is going to sink, grab Luna!” Cally said.
The sound of the crash made water flow through the ship, throwing everybody out to shore. Luna ran and they couldn't find her. Then Maya went missing too, so that left Beth and Cally to look for them. “Oh no Beth, what are we going to do? Maya and Luna are missing. Maybe we should split up,” Cally said nervously. “I don't think that's the greatest idea.
I mean, we just got here, we don't even know where we're at,” said Beth. Cally nodded. “Okay, okay, we won't split up. You’re right, it's not a good idea." So they set off to find Luna. “Luna! Luna girl, where are you? Come out, please?” said Cally, holding out a fish.
A bird swooped down and grabbed the fish out of her hand. “Oh well, I guess we need something else to get Luna to come to us,” said Beth giggling at Cally. “It's not funny, it’s… hey, is that Luna?” said Cally, pointing at a shadow of Luna. So they started running after her and finally caught her. “Hey you little rascal!” said Beth, holding Luna tightly.
“Now we just need to find Maya,” said Cally.
Chapter eight
The Helper
While Beth and Cally were busy chasing after Luna, Maya was having her own painful adventure. She found herself at the top of a ravine. Not noticing how close to the edge she was, she was trying to see out into the waves, looking for her friends. Before she knew what was happening, the ground fell out beneath, and she slid to the bottom. As Maya lay in the ravine, her arm broken from the fall, she tried to call for help but she was weak.
