CAPITOLO 1 MARE DEL NORD

Each seagull emerged with a fish in its beak

Kengah, a silver-feathered seagull, watched the ships' flags, reflecting on how humans have difficulty communicating, while seagulls all screech alike.

    În timp ce căuta al patrulea hering, nu a auzit semnalul de alarmă: " Pericol la tribord! Trebuie să ne luăm zborul imediat!"

When Kengah raised her head, she found herself alone in the vastness of the ocean.

Кенга је раширила крила да полети, али густи талас ју је потопио.

When she resurfaced, daylight had faded, and she realized the sea's curse was obscuring her vision. With her wings pinned, she tried to swim away from the black spot.

Desperate, Kengah realized the oil hadn't completely glued her wings together. She decided to try flying high. Quando riaprì gli occhi, vide il campanile della chiesa di Amburgo, ma le sue ali non potevano più volare.

Zorba adında bir kedi var. Sıcak  güneşin altında dinlenirken kendini mutlu ve huzurlu hissediyor. Birden Kengah adında bir martı geliyor. Zorba'ya petrole düştüğünü ve başından geçenleri anlatıyor. Kengah çok yorgun ve bitkin görünüyor. Zorba'dan yardım istiyor.

ZORBA approached, and the seagull explained that she had been hit by a black wave, the curse of the seas, and that she was dying. "Listen, friend, don't say that! You're just tired and dirty. I'd like to help you, but not like this," Zorba said worriedly. He licked her head, but the substance covering it tasted horrible.

I want to help you, but I don't know how.

As the seagull's breathing became increasingly weak, Zorba was running away to seek help when he heard the seagull calling him and saying, "With the last of my strength, I want to lay an egg and..."

Just as the seagull breathed its last, a small white egg with blue spots rolled next to its oil-soaked body.

Zorba went to get help, but encountered two cats rummaging through the garbage and mocking him. Zorba showed his claws and ran away.

Zorba told the Colonel about the seagull's problem and the promises he had made. He agreed to help. The Secretary suggested he consult Diderot, a wise cat from the Library. The Colonel then announced that they would all go together. A problem for one harbor cat is a problem for all harbor cats!

CHAPTER 5 CURIOUS PLACE: DIDEROT, AN ENCYCLOPEDIC CAT

 Diderot lived in a place that resembled a disorganized bazaar of strange objects, called "Harry's Port Bazaar." Harry, an old sailor, had collected items during his travels and displayed them in three rented houses. The bazaar contained nearly a million objects, including hats, steering wheels, lanterns, compasses, and many other oddities

       Harry had two lucky pets: Mattia, the chimpanzee who managed his tickets, and Diderot, the grey cat who examined his books.

    I gatti andarono al mercato. Rimasero sorpresi di dover pagare l'ingresso. Tuttavia, Mattia li fece entrare senza pagare.

   The cats went to the market. They were surprised to have to pay an entrance fee. However, Mattia let them in without paying. .

I tre gatti si unirono a Diderot. Zorba gli raccontò la storia di Kengah. Diderot consultò l'enciclopedia e scoprì che serviva benzina per rimuovere la macchia, quindi chiese al Segretario di cospargergli la coda di benzina. .

I quattro gatti trovano un gabbiano morto e scoprono un uovo blu maculato. Zorba, preoccupato di come prendersi cura dell'uovo, si rivolge a Diderot per chiedere consiglio.

Diderot spiega che è necessario fornire calore corporeo all'uovo sdraiandosici sopra senza romperlo. Zorba rimane con l'uovo mentre gli altri gatti accompagnano Diderot a consultare la sua enciclopedia.

Zorba stayed with the egg, kept it warm, and fell asleep in the sun, keeping his promise.

Under the moonlight, the Secretary, Diderot, the Colonel, and Zorba bury the dead seagull at the foot of a horse chestnut tree. The Colonel remembers that Zorba promised to care for the egg and orders Diderot to consult the encyclopedia on the art of flight.

I gatti iniziano a miagolare un triste canto d'addio, unendosi ad altri gatti e animali, creando un coro che commuove persino gli abitanti di Amburgo, ignari della causa di quella malinconia.

The black cat stayed next to the egg, protecting it. Days passed, and Zorba felt frustrated, thinking he was caring for an inanimate object. He couldn't see or feel any signs of life in the egg... 

Yirminci akşam gününde Zorba, karnının altında bir gıdıklanma hissiyle uyanır ve kabuğundaki bir çatlaktan minik sarı bir noktanın çıktığını görüyor. Yumurtadan çıkmış olan küçük martı, "Anne, acıktım!" diye bağırır atar. Heyecanlanan ama endişelenen Zorba, Martıların balıkla beslendiğini biliyordu, ancak o anda balığın nerede bulunacağını biliyordu.

Zorba si ricordò che il pulcino era un uccello e che mangiava insetti; così uscì sul balcone e catturò alcune mosche, che il pulcino ingoiò avidamente. Soddisfatto, si accoccolò nella pancia di Zorba.

Zorba remembered that the chick was a bird and that it ate insects; so he went out onto the balcony and caught some flies, which the chick eagerly swallowed. Satisfied, it snuggled into Zorba's belly.

"Ho sonno, mamma." "Senti, mi dispiace, ma non sono tua madre", miagolò Zorba. "Certo che sì, e sei anche molto buono."

Quando arrivano Colonnello, Segretario e Diderot, trovano il pulcino addormentato accanto a Zorba. Il Colonnello ordina al Segretario di prendere una sardina per il pulcino e dice: "Bene, mio caro hai mantenuto la tua prima promessa e stai mantenendo la seconda; ti resta solo la terza.".

 IL PERICOLO È SEMPRE IN AGGUATO

Le complicazioni iniziano il secondo giorno di vita del gabbiano, quando Zorba deve nasconderlo sul balcone per evitare che il suo amico di famiglia lo scopra. Dopo aver affrontato e spaventato due gatti che minacciavano il pulcino, Zorba si rende conto che il balcone non è sicuro e decide di portarlo in un posto sicuro

Zorba prende delicatamente il gabbiano tra i denti e la porta al bazar e rimarrà lì finché non imparerà a volare.

Dopo qualche giorno, Sopravento, la mascotte di Hannes II, un gatto color miele con gli occhi azzurri,  arriva al bazar. Il colonnello gli raccontò la storia del gabbiano e gli chiese di dire se fosse maschio o femmina.
