Hellen Keller
Hellen Keller was blind and deaf but even when difficulties came her way she never gave up. She achieved many great things!

Hello, I was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama. When I was 19 months, I developed a fever which caused me to become blind and deaf.
Because I couldn’t see, and I couldn’t hear, I would become very frustrated and angry because I couldn’t communicate with my family what I wanted.

Because I couldn’t see, and I couldn’t hear, I would become very frustrated and angry because I couldn’t communicate with my family what I wanted.
At the age of 7, my parents got me a tutor. Her name was Anne Sullivan. She was a little mean, but she was very patient with me. She would teach me Manual sign language.
Manuel sign language is signing into the other person’s hand. So in my case, Miss Sullivan would do sign language in mine.

There was one time when I was able to make a connection between a word and an object, and that was water. She signed water on my hand and with the other I was able to feel it. Once I was able to make that connection I was able to learn so many other words.

Now that I knew so many words, I wanted to share my story and I decided to write my own book. I wanted to share my life, and an editor helped me make this come true. My book is called, “The Story of My Life”

In 1904 I was the first deaf-blind student to graduate from Radcliffe College. I felt so accomplished but I wanted to do more.
Then joined the Suffragist movement, to demand the right to vote for women. I believe that women should be able to vote too, not just men.

Then I also worked for the American Foundation for the blind. I was able to do so much for the foundation, and I loved it so much that I worked there for multiple years.
