To my Elara x

Once there was a little girl called Elara. She lived at home with her mum Sadie and her dog Riley.
Elara was a curious 6-year old girl who would sometime struggle with big feelings. Elara came home from school one day feeling upset. Her friends had been leaving her out at play time. She stomped up the stairs and shut the door not wanting to speak to anyone.

Mum enters the room. "Elara, do you want to tell me what is wrong?" she asks. "NO I DO NOT, I WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE!" Elara shouts.
Instead of getting upset Mum invites Elara to come outside to the garden with her...
"I've got a few little things to do in the garden" says Mum. "I would love your help if you feel up to it Elara."
Elara slowly nods her head. "I'll come down in a minute" she says.

Elara joins her mum in the garden. Mum is busy planting seeds. "I'm sorry you have had a tough day Elara. Whatever it is that has you feeling this way, just know it's ok and I'm here if you want to talk."
Elara looks at her mum and asks, "what seeds are you planting?". "Just some more flowers" says mum. "You know Elara, feelings are a lot like seeds."
"How?" says Elara. "Feelings are like little seeds in our hearts. If we listen to them, we can understand what they are trying to grow into".
Elara closes her eyes and imagines stepping into her magical feelings garden.

A happy fairy has appeared. "Hi Elara i'm Happy Hattie. I'm here to cheer you up. What is something that makes you feel happy?" Hattie asks.
"Going to my swimming lessons!" says Elara. "It is so much fun and I love getting better each week."
"That's lovely Elara. I have to dash, goodbye for now" says Hattie as she flies away.

Just then a sad fairy appears. "Hi Elara I'm sad Stella. I'm here to remind you that when you feel sad, it just means your heart is telling you something important. What makes you sad?"
"Well today at school my friends wouldn't let me join in with their game at play time." said Elara.
"I see said Stella. I can see why that would upset you. Sit with me for a while it might help."

After a few moments an angry gnome appeared. "Hi Elara I'm angry Axel. I am NOT in the mood today! What makes you feel angry Elara?"
"Well Axel I can think of a few things" said Elara. "Today for example my mum wouldn't let me have my favourite food for breakfast. I wanted biscuits for breakfast but she said no. It wasn't fair!"
"I understand Elara" said Axel. "You care about being treated fairly and that is important."
