For every child who has faced a storm—may you always find safety, strength, and helping hands nearby.

We start at Olympia Middle School. Vanessa and Leo Hills just found out their school will be closed as Hurricane Ashley quickly approaches. The school's gym will be converted to an evacuation shelter in case the storm worsens.
Okay, class remember, school is canceled for the rest of the week. I hope you all enjoy the break, but I still expect your homework when you get back.

Grandma Rosa, our teacher said there is a hurricane coming. I think Leo is a little scared of it do you know what we should do to prepare for one?
I am Not!!!

Leo, Vanessa good afternoon. Of course, I've been in my fair share of hurricanes so I'll make sure we get through this. Lets go in the kitchen, I still have my old Emergency Plan we can use.

Ok the first thing we should do is make sure we know where we can go if we have to leave. Your school is far enough inland to avoid any storm surge so it is being used as a shelter. Now in case we do need to leave lets make a go bag.
What should we pack grandma?

Ok we will need flashlights, batteries, a first aid kit, a can opener, 3 cans of food per person, and a gallon of water per person. We should also take our Important documents in a waterproof pouch some spare cash and the medications we take. Who wants to go grab everything?
We Do!!!
Leo and Vanessa went around their house and found everything they needed. Now it's time to work outside

Ok, kids now we need to bring all of our furniture inside and make sure our gutters are clear. We don't want anything blowing into the house
Ew, Gross, Grandma I am not touching the gutter.

Oh dear kids, I just checked the news and the Hurricane has gotten stronger and is now a Category 3. Go grab the bags you packed and any small toys or games you would like.

Ok Grandma we will be quick!!

Ok kids, i think we are all set. Our go bag was packed so we are able to leave very quickly great job.
It's ok Leo, you don't have to be scared. Grandma made sure we're all prepared

As the Hills family leaves traffic is really bad. They pass by many boarded up houses and shops. They are headed back to their middle school for shelter. Leo wonders what their house will look like after the storm.

This way everyone. You will all be ok!

The Hills family arrives and is welcomed into the shelter.
Oh no, I didn't bring my homework with me

Inside the shelter the Hill's start to settle in and Vanessa and Leo even make some friends.

Hello, I'm Leo do y'all want to play some games.
