Well, it makes sense, you really don't know how to use social media properly yet.

I don’t know why Mom won’t let me get social media now.

Everyone else in my class uses it, though, it’s not fair!

 I can talk to mom about it but first I want to share a story about someone I know.

Sit down so we can talk.

"One day in 8th grade, this little girl decided that she was going to download social media like all of her friends did. She did not know what she was getting herself into."

As she went to school that day she added a bunch of her friends on social media. One of her bestfriends was upset that she downloaded it and told her to delete it. She was so confused and wondered why. That was until later that week she saw on her friends phone that there were many groupchats without her.

She wondered why her bestfriends wouldn’t want her on them. She went homes a little upset but came to the conclusion that they must have just forgotten to add her.

A couple weeks go by and she sees a post on her feed making fun of her, she ran to her bestfriends sobbing asking why people would say such rude things. Her bestfriend told her that she had found out a couple days before she downloaded social media that their friends had created groupchats making fun of her. The bestfriend did not want her to find out in fear of her feelings getting hurt.

They indeed were when the little girl went home she finally told her mom that she had downloaded social media and was facing some bullying by other people. Her mom was not disappointed in her for downloading social media but more disappointed that other people had not been taught how to be kind on social media. 

 I told you this because it was not just a random girl, it was me. And it hurt, a lot of people believe because they are only seeing someone through a screen or texting through a screen that the person they are saying hurtful things about can not feel anything. This is not true, though; you need to have empathy for people even if you can not see them physically. 

Okay, that is a sad story, but it doesn’t even matter that much, it’s just a random girl, and mom shouldn’t be so strict on me. 

Oh wow I had no clue this happened to you. Thank you for telling me this sister, I know that this could happen to anyone.

 It is okay, it is in the past, but I thought you should hear this story before I talk to mom about you downloading social media.
