Max, Trixie, and Biscuit had been trapped in their cage all morning.
Max paced nervously, his tail twitching. Trixie, the bossy one, growled, “We’re not staying in here forever.” Biscuit just munched on the bars, crumbs of kibble still stuck in his fur. Then, with a CLANG, the cage door creaked open.
“Coming out!” barked Trixie, leading the charge. The three pesky dogs tumbled into the yard, tails wagging, paws skidding on the dirt. For the first time in ages, they were free!
But then—shadows moved. A sleek black lab stepped forward. “Name’s Shadow,” she whispered. “I’ve been
sneaking through tunnels. Need a partner?” Before they could answer, a giggling dalmatian bounded up, spots flashing everywhere. “I’m Dottie! I have a spot on my tail, a spot on my ear, a spot on my—oh! Another spot!”
The ground began to shake. STOMP. STOMP. A massive bulldog appeared, his voice deep but gentle. “I’m Tank,” he rumbled. “Don’t be afraid. I might look tough, but I’m really just a softie.”
Now six pesky dogs stood together: Max the smart one, Trixie the bossy leader, Biscuit the snack-lover, Shadow the sneaky scout, Dottie the spotty clown, and Tank the gentle giant. Trixie raised her nose proudly. “Six times the
trouble,” she declared. Biscuit licked his lips. “Six times the snacks!”
The dogs charged into the wide world, barking with joy. Would they explore the city, raid the woods, or leap into a rocket ship and blast into space? No one knew. But one thing was certain: wherever the pesky dogs went, adventure (and mischief) would always follow.
The dogs raced across the field, grass brushing their paws. “City!” barked Trixie. “Lots of food, lots of fun.”
“Woods!” argued Max. “Safe, quiet, and no cages.”
“Space!” howled Biscuit, his mouth full of crumbs. “Snacks float in space!”
Shadow flicked her tail. “I know a secret path that leads to the city. But it’s dangerous. Guards watch it.”
Tank’s deep voice rumbled. “Then we’ll protect each other.”
Dottie spun in circles, chasing her tail. “I’ll distract the guards! Nobody can resist my spots!”
The six pesky dogs reached a broken fence. Shadow sniffed the ground. “Here. The tunnel starts here.”
