"To my family, my students, and all who never stopped believing."

In the quiet town of Greenhill, a twelve-year-old boy named Liam often dreamed of going on adventures.
He loved exploring the fields and climbing trees, but the place that fascinated him most was the dark forest behind his house — the Whispering Woods.
People said the trees there could talk, but no one really believed it.

One bright morning, Liam and his best friend Emma met under the big oak tree near his garden. The summer air was warm, and butterflies danced over the grass. Liam’s little dog, Milo, was running around happily.
While they were talking, Milo suddenly began to bark near the roots of the oak tree. Liam knelt down and saw something half-buried in the dirt — a small glass bottle. Inside was a piece of paper. Curious, he pulled it out carefully.
It was a map. The drawing showed the Whispering Woods, a river, and a red “X” at the center. At the bottom, it said in strange letters:
“Find the Heart of the Woods before the Moonlight Fades.”
Emma stared at it, surprised. “Do you think it’s real?” she asked. Liam smiled. “There’s only one way to find out.”
That afternoon, they packed their backpacks with sandwiches, apples, and a flashlight. The forest entrance stood tall and green, as if waiting for them. Birds sang above their heads, but as they stepped inside, the sound grew softer. The trees seemed to whisper to each other in a language the children couldn’t understand.
The path was narrow and covered with moss. The water was so clear they could see the fish swimming lazily below. On the other side of the pond sat a creature no taller than a rabbit. It had shiny wings and wore a tiny leaf hat.
The creature looked up and smiled. “Welcome,” it said in a small, musical voice. “I am Pip, the guardian of the woods.”
Emma gasped. “You can talk!”
“Of course,” said Pip cheerfully. “You must be the ones who found the map. The forest has been waiting for you.”
The fairy fluttered closer, his wings glowing faintly. He explained that the Heart of the Woods was a crystal hidden deep in the forest. It gave life to every tree, flower, and bird. But something was wrong — the crystal was losing its light. If it faded completely, the forest would fall silent forever.
Liam and Emma listened carefully. They felt both scared and excited. “We’ll help you,” Liam said without hesitation.
Pip smiled. “Then follow me.”
They crossed the pond using stepping stones and followed a trail covered with silver leaves.
The forest grew darker, but strange lights flickered between the trees, like tiny stars.
Soon they reached an ancient tree so tall that its top disappeared into the clouds. At its roots lay a wooden door, half-covered with vines.
“This is the entrance to the Heart,” said Pip. “But it will only open if you solve the riddle.”
The fairy pointed to a stone tablet beside the door. It read:
“I drink without a mouth, I grow without feet,
I shine without light, and I die without heat.”
Emma thought for a long time, then her eyes lit up. “It’s a shadow!” she said.
The moment she spoke, the door creaked open.
Inside, the air shimmered like glass. They found themselves in a wide, glowing cave. In the center stood a crystal, bright but flickering weakly. Roots and vines surrounded it, and a soft hum filled the space.
As Liam stepped closer, a shadowy figure appeared behind the crystal — a tall shape made of mist. It wasn’t evil, only sad. Pip whispered, “That is the Spirit of Forgetting. It feeds on the forest’s lost memories.”
