Once upon a time, a merry couple named Elizabeth
and John were walking home enjoying the nature all
about them. They talked about their lives together, and
how much they longed for a child. As they approached
their home, a long brown yellow-striped snake slithered
toward them.

The snake had overheard them talking about a child,
so he told them that he would grant them two wishes if
they would do something for him in return. The couple
thought about it for a while, and then decided to accept
the snake's offer.
"Well then, think carefully about your two wishes and
I I will return in the morning to grant them."

Early the next morning, the snake slithered
right up in front of the couple's home.
"Do you know your two wishes?" He asked the
couple. A large smile spread across Elizabeth's
face.
"Yes." She replied as the snake raised up his
head to listen to her request.

For our first wish,
we would
like a child!
And, for our second wish, we'd likefor the child to be healthy and
wise.

Go to the market in the morning and look for the potato stand.
There will be a row of hedges by
the stand. Look for a pink ribbon
tied around one of the branches.
Behind that bush, you will find a
fruit basket containing your two
wishes.

The next day, Elizabeth and John got up early,
ate breakfast, and got dressed. Elizabeth went to
the market to see if the snake had kept his word,
while John chopped wood and prepared a place
for their new child.
When Elizabeth arrived at the market, she
found everything exactly as the snake had told
her it would be. Her heart beat rapidly as she
slowly looked behind the green hedge with the
pink bow tied to its branch. And there it was, a
small basket with a little girl inside.

The little baby girl inside the basket was
wrapped in a white linen cloth and looked
healthy and strong. Elizabeth carefully picked
the basket up and quickly went home to show
her husband that the snake had kept his word
to grant their wishes.
Elizabeth and John were so happy that the
snake had given them a child that they named
their little girl, Mia, meaning a wish granted.

In fact, Elizabeth and John were so happy being
parents to their new little girl, that they forgot
all about the snake. And, for quite a long time,
it seemed as though the snake had forgotten
about Elizabeth and John too.

Meanwhile, the child grew . . . and . . .
she grew.

And . . . She grew.
Until she becamea beautiful young
lady.

Then one day when Elizabeth and John arrived
at home from the market, the old snake slithered
up to them.
