ART

Once upon a time, there was a third-grade boy who loved art.
His dream was to become an artist.
He owned a big binder called a trapper-keeper, and it was filled with all of his art supplies.
There were colored pencils, markers, watercolors, acrylic paint, canvases, paper, and more in his binder.
At school, he carried his art binder around all day long.
Whenever he had free time in class or he finished his work early, he would draw or paint. Sometimes he would even get in trouble because he would often make a mess.

One day, he decided that he wanted to make money using his art so that he could buy more supplies.
He thought long and hard about how to make money with his art, and then he had an idea!
Paper footballs.

Paper footballs are small, folded triangles of paper that you can flick with your finger in order to score against your friends.
He figured that paper footballs are a form of origami art, so he started making tons of paper footballs.
After several hours of folding paper, he was ready for the next day of school.
When he got to school, he made a sign that said “25¢ PAPER FOOTBALLS.”
It was a hit.
Many people bought one or two paper footballs from him.
But by the end of the day, he still had so many left over.
Even though he sold quite a few, he only made enough money to pay back the price of the paper that he used.
He needed a more effective strategy to make money.

After some more thinking, he had another idea.
On his drives to and from school, he always noticed homeless people begging for money with a cardboard sign.
What if he could create a sign using his art supplies that asked people for money?

When he got home from school, he painted a beautiful sign that said “TRYING TO BUY NEW ART SUPPLIES, ANYTHING HELPS.”
Once that was finished, he stuck it in his backpack and rode his bike to the main road.
He stood by the road and tried to get people to stop to give him money.

???

Cars flew by and nobody even looked at him.
It was cold and windy, nobody wanted to stop, and after an hour, he was tired.
He sadly rode his bike home and sat down on his bed, wondering how he was ever going to make some money.
Then he knew exactly what to do!
