Sally and Callie were twins. 9-year olds. Their mom loved to see them match in every way. Same hair, same clothes. Same shoes. But deep down, Callie wanted to be different from her sister. Sally, however loved things the way they were.

On their first day of 4th grade, sally was very exited for her and Callie to wear their brand new blue dresses. Sally finished getting dressed before Callie, and left the room they shared to eat breakfast.

Just then, Callie bounced down the stairs. When sally saw her, she started to cry. Callie was not wearing her new blue dress. She wore a green shirt, and a white skirt. She even had her hair down! Sally and Callie always wore their hair in pigtails. Sally was crushed. And mad. But it was time to get on the school bus, so Callie had no time to apologize, and explain.

At school, the most popular girl ever walked up to Callie and said hello. Her name was Tara. Then, she and Callie walked away from sally together, chatting as they went. Sally began to cry more. She and her sister had always played together and had the same friends. She was so sad. She had known that 4th grade would be different than 3rd, but she had never known her sister would completely
ditch her!

As Sally was sadly walking down the hall, another girl walked up to her. “Hi!” Said the girl. “My name is Emma! I just moved to New Jersey, so I don’t know anybody here! Are you new too??????”
“No.” Sally said. “I know people, cause I went to 3rd grade at this school, but my twin sister Callie is my only friend, really. Well, she was.” Sally finished, glumly.
“Why isn’t she still your bestie?” Asked Emma.
“Because we always used to wear the same clothes and match and all, but this morning, she wore a different outfit than me, and she didn’t even tell me! And then, when we got to school, she met this girl named Tara, and they walked away together! Like I didn’t even exist!”
Sally said. “Wow, that is pretty serious,” Emma said. “Would you like to be my friend?” Emma asked. “I mean, since your sister has a bestie of her own, why can’t you?”
“You’re right.” Sally said. “Yes, I would like to be your best friend, thank you so much!” And the two of them walked down the hall together.
