In a household in Mena, Arkansas there was a boy who loved to play basketball but couldn't at their house because his parents couldn't afford a basketball goal and wouldn't let him dribble in the house.

Son, you know you cannot bring the basketball in the house. I shouldn't have to tell you again!

So, the boy went outside to practice. "I wish there was a team I could play on." He wished hopelessly as he continued to practice.

He went inside to warm up and he heard his mom get a phone call. He was anxious to know what it was about.

His mom and dad came in the living room looking concerned and says, "Son, we need to talk to you."

He is very anxious on whatever they have to tell him.

"You have been invited to play for the Mena, Bearcats. You may not be starting, but I made a few calls and you can practice and work your way up to varisity."

The boy was was so excited. He couldn't even hold it in. "Really dad? Thank you! I promise all my hardwork will pay off!" 

They are heading to the boy's first practice with the Mena Bearcats. He is nervous, yet very excited. He tells more of his feelings in his notebook.

I'm feeling nervous for my first practice, but also really excited. I really want to fit in with the guys. They are 8th graders and I am just 7th grade. I am going to prove to them that I deserve to be on this team!

They made it back and Blake was very happy with how practice went. He felt like a part of a team now.

"Dad I did so good. They said I made the team and have a good possibility of being the number six on the team!" Blake was telling him hoping his father would be proud of him.

"Great job son. I'm so proud of your commitment and work ethic." "Thanks dad. You don't know how much that means to me. Coach says our first game is in one week. I hope you'll be able to come."
