Dedicated to all the brave kids in military families who are heroes at home and wherever they go!

The sun peeked through the blinds as Emma Barron sat on her bed, hugging her teddy bear, Patch.
She looked around her room and stared at her soccer trophy and the picture of her best friend Mia.
Her dad had just told her they were moving again.

Emma’s dad was in the Army. That meant sometimes, when the Army needed him somewhere new, the whole Barron family packed up and moved too.
It wasn’t the first time they had to move.
Emma sighed. “But I just made friends here,” she whispered to Patch.
Downstairs, Mom was labeling boxes.
“Kitchen, check! Living room, check! Emma’s room, almost ready?”
Emma nodded slowly. “Do we have to move, Mom?”
Mom smiled gently. “The Army needs Daddy in Fort Maple. We’ll make new memories there, just like we did here.
That night, Emma’s dad tucked her in.
“Being an Army family means we’re a team,” he said. “We’re brave together. We make new homes, meet new people, and help others. That’s our mission.”
Emma tried to smile, but her chest felt heavy. “Will I still be brave if I cry?”
Dad kissed her forehead. “Of course. Brave people cry sometimes too.”
The next week, the moving truck rumbled into their driveway.
Emma helped wrap her soccer trophies in newspaper.
When she packed her picture with Mia, she added a sticky note that said, “Best friends, no matter how far!”
Mia had promised they’d video chat every weekend.
As the Barrons drove away, Emma waved out the window until her old house disappeared.
The road stretched far and long. Mountains, fields, and cities passed by.
Patch sat on her lap, and Emma whispered, “New adventure, right?”
After many miles, they reached their new home in Fort Maple!
Their house looked different, but it had a big oak tree in front, perfect for climbing.
On the base, there were other kids playing kickball. Emma noticed some wore shirts that said “Proud Military Kid.”
The next morning, Emma started at her new school.
Her heart thumped as she walked in. Everyone already seemed to know each other.
At recess, she sat alone with her sandwich until a boy with freckles waved.
“Hey! You new here?”
Emma nodded. “Just moved. My dad’s in the Army.”
“Cool!” said the boy. “Mine too. I’m Ben.”
