There was once a small town called Dull city. Everything in Dull city was gray, and dull. Even the sunset was dull. 

In the heart of Dull city lived a young girl named Madeleine. Maddi was 11 years old, and was starting 6th grade in the fall. All she wanted was a friend, but nobody else wanted to be friends with her.

There was a forest near Dull city. Inside that forest, creepy green vines, sickly colored poison ivy, there lived a beautiful unicorn. The unicorn’s name was Buttercup. Buttercup had wonderful powers, and she could even change colors! 

one day, Maddi decided to go to the forest. She saw the poison Ivy, and the green vines. And the prickly plants. But Maddi didn’t care. She just kept on walking. 

Suddenly, Maddi came to a pretty meadow. She saw a glimmer of white in the corner. Maddi carefully crept closer. “Neigh!” Buttercup cried. 

“It’s okay, whoever you are.” Maddi said. Buttercup stepped out, and the two stared at each other for a minute. “a unicorn?” Maddi said. “How?” 

Buttercup whinnied, and said to Maddi “there are thousands of us, everywhere. We are hiding.” 

“It can talk,” Maddi said, surprised. 

“Yes, and I’m a she. Buttercup’s the name,” buttercup told her. “would you like to come to my house?” Buttercup asked. Of course Maddi said yes.

When the two got to Buttercup’s house, they sat down, and buttercup brought out candied strawberries and candied Violets and cookies. “Should we help Dull City?” Asked Maddi, after several candied violets. 

“Of course!” Buttercup replied. “We can show them the beauty of art and nature!”
