Glyn David Overby, born in 1954, who went by David throughout most of his youth and teen years, was a competitive and fierce daredevil. He was born and raised in Florida, and he had quite a few siblings. Two were his sisters, and they were called Patricia and Glinda. He lived a happy childhood and later on began racing motorcycles.
In his 20's, he fell in love with a young woman named Cheryl Chasteen, who loved him just as much. They got married and had a daughter, Andrea Overby. Glyn still raced for Motorcross, a motorcycle sport with obstacles covering the track. It was intense and very physical, but he loved it and pushed through all his injuries.
He raced frequently, and was often getting hurt. Cheryl worried about him, but Glyn wanted to keep racing. By the time their third baby had been born, Cheryl made Glyn stop racing and help her take care of the children. She said she couldn't take care of him and three kids anymore. Glyn agreed and quit Motorcross.
Glyn was very handy and could fix almost anything, which was useful throughout his life. Whenever something mechanical broke, Glyn could repair it. Because of these skills, he decided to work at a paper mill to support his family.
Glyn loved to play soccer with his son, David Overby. He coached David's soccer team and was very competitive, which led them to a lot of wins. David was also very competitive, and hated to lose. But Glyn was always supportive.
Glyn and Cheryl divorced when their kids were around the ages of 7-14. Once his youngest child, Ashley, graduated her senior year of High School, Glyn was ready to start Motorcross racing again.
Glyn raced frequently again, and he loved it. However, when he got older, he had a terrible accident. He was racing and injured something in his throat, which sent him to the hospital. They were able to save him, but he had trouble eating and talking for the rest of his life.
Even though Glyn was hurt, he continued racing. He even raced in his 70's! Nothing could stop him. Even though he was older than some of the contestants, he almost always won.
At age 72, Glyn sadly passed away. He had been sick for a while. Everyone was very sad. But his legacy lives on. For example, this book! It tells his story and will help people learn about him.
