Government steps To Fix the Postwar Challenge

The GI Bill is the government law to help soldiers who returned from World War II. It provided support for high education, housing loans and job training for millions of soldiers to get new jobs and grow quickly in 1940's and 1950's

Levittown was a program in which the houses were built in suburbs, these houses were not costly but were cheap. This helped the soldiers to buy the houses at a low rate. The soldiers were allowed to buy these houses, not the African Families which caused a discrimination. 

Growth Of Suburban

The suburban growth happened as many people started moving their home to suburbs because these houses were cheaper and affordable. Moreover it was easier to get the corporate jobs and women started working.  

This made people have a good job which made them financially more stable, and grew their lifestyle and made them buy the new expensive products. 

This impacted lifestyle, baby boom, corporate culture, women's independence, and auto dependency. 

Growth Of Suburban

Lifestyle - Americans that were living in suburbs were able to buy products which were new like TVs, cars and appliances.  

Baby Boom - People which have more money can produce the baby so that's why the birth rate has increased.  

Corporate Culture - Many Americans that were working in multi-functional companies, and started wearing business suits following company rules, these companies paid good salaries.

Growth Of Suburban

Women's Role - Many women came back to become homemakers, though some of them worked in clerical and jobs of service.  

Auto Dependency - The people living in suburbs have increased dependence on cars to commute to work, daily life and shopping.   

Post World War Suburb Lifestyle and Pop Culture

Many American people living in suburbs were in middle class families, they used to focus and value for family,

role of family members, work and purchasing goods. TV shows and serials were based on the lifestyle that Americans living in suburbs were in the middle class. 

Rock "n" roll was a music which was created by African American musicians. This music was promoted into young teenagers. 

Impact of Pop Culture & Television Post World War 

People staying at suburbs started watching Television and shows as part of entertainment and fun. The  Popular shows included, The Lone Ranger,  Howdy Doody, Game Shows,  Comedy shows.  Television was changing how Americans spent their evenings, but this impacted their opinion and behaviors, such as  racial tensions,  some people think that African people are low standard, gender role conflicts e.g some people think female gender should not work in office, young kids were not following the traditional values and de-respecting their parents or elders.

Decline in urban and growth in suburbs 

Many people staying in cities (urban) started moving to suburbs, cities lost jobs, business, and tax, so city will have less money to run the entire city which made urban to a decline path, however the people who moved to suburbs had more jobs and  businesses and paid more tax. So the suburbs had more money and it was growing compared to the city.  Mostly white people moved to suburbs because black people were not allowed to buy houses in suburbs which made white people to be more safe in suburbs.   

Civil Rights

There was racial discrimination in military, school, buying houses, doing businesses. Government passed an order to fix the racial discrimination problem name of order was executive order 9981.

People started demanding and supporting civil rights equality, so that their is no discrimination between black and white people, and allowed to have equal jobs, and military, doing business and buying house and addition in schools,
