skimming
This is a reading technique that helps us identify, in a very quick way, the general idea of a text. That is, it is not necessary to read every word, but to understand the main idea.

Example:
- When we are in an exam and, due to time , we need to find the answer quickly in a long text.
-When we want to know what a text is about before reading completely

Advantages

- It helps us understand more quickly what the text is about without reading it all.⚡
- It is very useful when we have little time and the text is very long.

FAST READING

Disadvantages

It helps us understand more quickly what the text is about without reading it all.
It is very useful when we have little time and the text is very long.

Scanning

Scanning is a reading technique that helps us find specific information quickly. Instead of reading everything, we look for key words, numbers, names, or exact information that we need.

Example
- When we look for movie showtimes to see a film.
- When we look for a date on a calendar.

Advantages

-It allows us to find information quickly without reading the entire text.
-It makes it easier to find what we need in a text.
Disadvantages
-Sometimes we may not understand the complete context because we only focus on specific data.
-If we don’t search carefully, we can miss important information.

Getting the gist
Getting the Gist is a reading technique that helps us identify the main idea of a text, summarize it briefly, and understand the essence without focusing on too many details. We do not read every word we only try to understand what it is about in general.
Example
When we read the first paragraph to know what the text is about.
When we read the title and subtitles to understand the topic.

Advantages
It helps us focus on what is essential.
It makes it easier to understand the main message.
Disadvantages
We may not look at important information.
We can misunderstand something.

predicting

This is a reading technique where we look at the images or the title and try to imagine what the text will be about before reading it completely.
Example
Looking at the cover of a story and imagining what it will be about.

Advantages
It helps us understand the general idea quickly.
is useful when the text is very long.
Disadvantages
We do not understand all the details.
We can misunderstand the text.

Meaning from context (Context Clues)
The technique of meaning from context is basically understanding the meaning of an unknown word by using the words and sentences around it. such as in passages or stories about a specific topic.
Advantage
this technique helps to readers learn new words while reading, without constantly using a dictionary.

Examples
"She was exhausted after running marathon"
Even if you don't know the word "exhausted", you can understand it means very tired because the sentence says she ran a marathon
"The room was dim, with only a small candle lighting the space"
If you don't know the word Dim, the context helps you understand it means not very bright because only a small candle is lighting the room
Disadvantage
A disadvantage of this technique would be if the context is unclear or misleading, the reader might misunderstand the word
