Parents can be very busy sometimes. Consider that a lot of parents work during regular school hours.

Consider having office hours or meeting times earlier in the morning right before class or in the evening after school. This would work with a lot of parent availability.

Parents these days might also appreciate other methods of meeting if they are unable to do so face-to-face. Video calling allows to connect better by seeing each other's faces but allows the freedom time and place for the meeting.

Surveys are a great way to get parent input and promote engagement.

These can be sent out as printed documents or even an email!

Sometimes it can be difficult to get responses from parents but a great way to have children assist in this is by providing incentives. Extra credit, a small prize, or even a few minutes of free time in class can convince a student to work together with their parent for input.

Provide opportunities for parents to volunteer. Whether it is at school or activities outside of school hours, allowing parents a chance to become involved can have a positive effect.

Having school events that allow for a bit of fun but still provide information for parents can be a good way to get parents and families to come out.

Even during a fun activity evening parents can meet with teachers and information can be handed out.

It is always good to have an available line of communication for parents to reach out. Many parents are capable of texting and may even prefer this. Email is also easily accessible through our cell phones. Consider this a good option, just be sure to create an email/phone number specifically for parents.

Reach out to parents every so often just to provide updates on their child's school life.  Parents are used to only really hearing from schools during bad events but praising a child's behavior and work allows for a good relationship between the school and parents. Remember positivity goes a long way!
