Skimming is a reading technique used to get the main gist of a material. It’s all about going through a chunk of text quickly and less about comprehension.

Scanning:
Looking quickly through text specifically to find keywords, numbers, or specific information.

Getting the GIST:
This strategy involves three steps: identifying the "who" or "what" of a passage, identifying the most important information, and writing a concise summary.

Predicting:
Is a before reading comprehension strategy in which readers think about what they are going to read based on clues from the text. Predicting helps readers to organize their thinking as they encounter new material.

Meaning from Context:
Finding Word Meaning with Context teaches students to determine unfamiliar word meanings by analyzing surrounding text clues. This strategy helps readers decode vocabulary through sentence structure, examples, definitions, and contrasts provided in the text.

Silent reading:
Is the process of absorbing written text visually without vocalization or lip movement, allowing for higher speed (250–300 words per minute) and better concentration compared to reading aloud. It is a key skill for improving comprehension, fostering a love for reading, and developing independent, long term learning habits.

Reading Aloud:
Means to vocalize written text speaking or reading in an audible voice so that the material can be heard by yourself or others. It is used to enhance comprehension, improve retention, and identify errors in writing, acting as an interactive tool for learning or sharing stories.

Annotation:
A key tool for close reading that helps to uncover patterns, notice important words, and identify main points. An active learning strategy that improves comprehension and retention of information.

Main advantages of the reading techniques:
1-Skimming: Time Efficiency: Great for previewing long chapters or articles.
2-Scanning:You find the "needle in the haystack" in seconds.
3- Getting the gist: You walk away knowing exactly what the author's point was.
4-Predicting: It turns reading into a "game," keeping you focused.
