Welcome to Sunny Springs Elementary School,
where music is rich!

Every student plays aloud
With great rhythm and pitch.

Everyone here loves music.
There are classes galore.

That was until Anna Crusis,
The new principal, walked through the door...
She wore a grimace
And all black and grey
“I hate the sound of this music, I demand it stop today!”

Yes, Miss Crusis hated music,
Every single note.

She went through banning the music classes
And shushing every throat.

She grabbed recorders and broke them in two,
She ripped up the sheet music and up the pieces flew.

She smashed every trombone, and oboe, and flute
And made sure the trumpets could not roota-toot-toot.

The students were devastated
Their voices were stolen,
Their music was gone,
And their hearts were broken.

One student spoke up,
Little Cathryn came through.

"She can’t get away with this,
What are we gonna do?”

Then Addison replied:
"But we’re so small,
And she’s so big.
We can’t do anything at all.”

Colin said aloud:
" I know what can be done!
But for it to work,
I’ll need help from everyone.”
“Yes, we may be small,
But our numbers are not.
If we stand together
We can’t be stopped!”

So all the students made a plan.
They banded together and decided to take a stand!

They went to her office, and began to ask:
“Miss Crusis, will you please bring back our music class?”

"Absolutely not,” Miss Crusis replied.
“Now leave my office this instant!”
And so they left, and went outside.
“Alrighty,” said Colin, “it’s time for plan B”

“Well, what’s that?” Said Carlee.
Colin replied “Just wait, and you’ll see.”
He waited beside the office
With his guitar plugged in.

“I’ll wait till she walks by," he said,
“and that’s when I’ll begin”

Then, it happened,
That way she came heading;
he ripped open a power chord
And then began shredding.

When he’d finished his riff,
He stood tall and proud.

"That’s what I learned in music class,
That’s why it should be allowed.”
Miss Crusis was fuming!
How dare he act in such a way.

“To detention with you!” Miss Crusis yelled.
He didn’t know what to say.

Little Colin, defeated, went on to detention.
All he had wanted was to get her attention
and show her that music instills confidence and pride.
But now he had failed and felt dissatisfied.

In a classroom nearby, some students sat talking.

“I’d love to learn how to play the drums!” Mikey said
“I’ll teach you!” Reagan replied
But then Miss Crusis came walking...

While Reagan was teaching Mikey drumming
Miss Crusis came in hatefully strutting.

“You’ll stop this instant!” She said with a roar.
“This drumming must quit, I’ll hear no more!”

But because of the music, a friendship had been made
The students were sad it had been taken away.

Then sat Melody playing her instrument.
She’d worked and she’d worked until she had gotten her piece perfect.
She played each note in tune, every rhythm precise
Then Miss Crusis came in and said something not so nice.

Miss Crusis thundered “Hadn't you heard?”
“I’ll have no music in this school!”
Melody tried to fight back, but she said
“Not another word!”
