Paige's Big Race

Paige has always loved going fast.

She loves the wind in her hair and watching her wheels spinning round and round on the ground.

At school, Paige heard her peers chatter about the big school race coming up! 

"I'm going to win!" says Ben.

"No way!" says Jen.

Paige smiled, but inside she felt nervous.

She was in a wheelchair and didn't think she could race, let alone win.

Paige asks her teacher, "Can I be in the race too?

"Of course you can, Paige!" says Mrs. Smith.

Paige has never felt so excited! 

All she wanted was to be included with her peers and to show them how fast she was!

The next day, Paige sits and watches as her peers warm up and whizz by one by one.

"Wow, they're really fast!" Paige thinks as she feels butterflies flutter around in her stomach.

"I don't stand a chance..."

Now that her peers have warmed up, Paige decides she should get some practice in.

She pulls out her special racing wheelchair, takes a deeeeep breath, grabs her wheels,

And ZIP! She was off! Her teacher and peers watched in amazement as Paige flew past them!

"Wow, Paige! You sure are quick." One student says.

"Yeah! And that's a really cool chair you've got there!" Another student adds.

All of a sudden, the butterflies in Paige's stomach vanished! She felt seen.

"Hey! I have an idea! Why don't you race with us, Paige? We can even keep one lane open so you have room to zoom!

So the moment came, the day of the big race.

All the students took their place. Giggles and smiles filled the space.

Paige gripped the wheels of her chair and waited anxiously.

"On your marks..Get set.. GO!"

The students took off.

Parents and teachers cheered them on.
