Daniel, Jenny and Ricky met up in the front of their neighborhood one Saturday morning and they all decided they wanted to build a treehouse. 

"Let's build it in my backyard since I have the biggest tree!" Said Daniel.

Jenny and Ricky agreed.

They all started to brainstorm different ways to build the treehouse and they each gave ideas on how they want to customize it.

"Let's add a TV for movies!" Said Jenny

"And a chair so we can sit!" Said Ricky.

"We have more planning to do than just that." Said Daniel.

As they measured the platform of the future treehouse, they determined that one side would be 6 feet long and the other side would be 4 feet wide.

"That makes a rectangle!" Said Jenny. 

After discussing with each other, they realized they would need to multiply both sides by each other to find the square footage of the platform.

"6 times 4 would equal 24 square footage" Said Daniel.

"That's how big the floor of our treehouse will be." Said Jenny excitedly.

Ricky mentioned how the perimeter would also be helpful in getting the proper measurements for the platform. 

"Oh that's easy." Said Jenny. 

"We would just add all the sides, 6+6+4+4= 20 feet."

Everyone thought it would be best if Daniel had the biggest room since it’s his house. 

“3 times 4 equals 12 square feet for my room.” Said Daniel.

Jenny and Ricky split the remaining square footage between each other to make it fair.

“2 times 3 equals 6 square feet times two, which means we can still both have our own room Jenny.” Said Ricky.

All three of the rooms totaled the 24 square feet that they had determined from the platform and the perimeter.

“Yay I’m so happy I get my own room!” Said Jenny.
