On a warm, sunny day on the farm, a small, smooth brown egg rested in a soft nest made of golden hay. Inside the egg was a tiny chick named Pip, waiting to come out into the world.

The egg began to wiggle and wiggle. Pip started to hatch, pushing and pecking at his shell with all his strength. It was hard work, but Pip did not give up. After a big struggle, crack! He finally broke free. “Peep!” said a tiny voice as he popped out.

Pip was a fluffy yellow chick. He was small, soft, and a little wobbly on his feet.

Pip’s mother gently covered him with her warm feathers. Baby chicks need warmth to stay safe and healthy. Pip felt safe and cozy next to her.

Soon, Pip began to walk. His tiny legs were shaky at first, but he kept trying. He stayed close to his mother and followed her everywhere she went.

“Chicks must stay close,” his mother said. “The farm is big, and I will help keep you safe.”

Pip learned how to peck at the ground. Peck, peck! He found seeds and tiny bugs to eat. Sometimes he even found little worms hiding in the dirt.

“Chicks eat often to grow strong,” his mother explained. Pip ate and drank water every day, helping his body grow bigger and stronger.

Pip also learned to listen carefully. When his mother clucked, it meant, “Come here!” Pip practiced listening so he could stay safe.

One day, Pip wandered a little too far while exploring. He was curious about everything he saw. But when he looked around, he did not see his mother anywhere. Pip’s heart started to beat fast.

“Peep! Peep!” Pip chirped loudly. Baby chicks call for help when they feel scared or unsafe.
