Talia was the tallest kid in her class.

Not just a little tall.

Really tall.

Picture Day 2026

In every line, she stood in the back.

In every picture,  you guessed it, she stood in the back.

It felt like she was always… behind.

“Hey, giraffe!” someone whispered.

“Do you play basketball?” another kid laughed.

Talia smiled on the outside…

but inside, her feelings hurt. 

At home, Talia slouched on the couch. 

“If I sit down,” she thought, “maybe I won’t look so tall.”

Talia’s parents could tell something was wrong.
“Are you okay?” they asked.

“I’m just tired,” Talia said.

She didn’t tell them the real reason—
about the jokes,
about the stares,
about being tall.

That part stayed behind a wall even she couldn’t see over. 

At school the next day, Talia tried to stay quiet.

She avoided raising her hand.

She avoided being noticed. 

Being tall already made her stand out enough.

One day in P.E., everything changed.

“Today we’re playing volleyball!” the teacher said.

Talia groaned.

Great. Another way to stand out.

Talia was nervous, but she remembered that it was just a game. 

The ball flew over the net.

Without thinking, Talia reached up…

and blocked it.

She barely had to jump.

Everyone froze.

“Whoa!” someone said.

“That was amazing!”

Talia blinked.

Amazing?

“You should join the team,” her teacher said.

Talia hesitated.

Could she really?
