The Texas flag is one of the most recognized symbols  for the state of Texas. The nickname "Lone Star State" comes from the single star featured on the flag.

The three colors featured on the flag are blue white and red. The color blue stands for loyalty, white stands for purity, and red stands for bravery. 

The Texas Flag design was officially adopted on January 25, 1839. That is almost 200 years ago!

The next significant Texas symbol is the Texas Longhorn. This breed of cattle get their name from their iconic long horns.

The Longhorn cattle were first brought to Texas by Spanish explorers. The population of the Longhorn cattle in Texas spread fast. Longhorns were officially named one of Texas' official symbols in 1969.
