Once upon a time, there lived a twelve year old boy named
Jack. He was young, but that did not stop him from thinking
big, he dreamed that one day he would be able to help the
people that were poor, like him. He lived in a small village with
his mom, called Villemagique.
One day his mom gave him some money to go and get some
food for them. Jack went to the market and looked around for
a place to buy food but a man soon approached him. He was
looking to sell some “magical beans.” Jack believed him and
gave the man all the money his mom had given him for the
beans. When Jack had returned home, he showed his mom
what he had gotten and she grew very angry with him.

“You spent all the money I gave you on these worthless things,
Jack? Now we have no food!” said Jack’s mom.
“They are magical beans, mom!” argued Jack.
“Don’t tell me what they are.” muttered Jack’s mom. "Get out
of my sight."
When Jack went to his room, his mom threw the beans out of
the window, without thinking.

The next day when Jack thought about what he had done, he
regretted it. He understood how thoughtless his decision was
and went to apologize to his mom, until something caught his
eye, outside the window.
As he went closer and closer, he became more and more
shocked. There was a huge beanstalk.
"What! How?" muttered Jack.

The tall beanstalk loomed up in the sky and Jack could not see
the top. His curiousity was unbearable and so he decided he
would quickly climb up it and see if there was anything, those
beans were magical after all. He quickly closed the curtains so
nobody could see he beanstalk from the inside.
He climbed and climbed and finally got to the top in about five
minutes but for him it felt like an hour. Jack was not scared of
heights, in fact, he loved them because he could see
everything below him.
At the very top of the beanstalk there were clouds, thick,
white, puffy clouds. After that there lay a big, fancy castle
which was covered in treasures.

Jack's eyes widened in amazement. He thought of all the
things he could do with all the treasure. Pearls, gold,
diamonds, he could be rich. Then he realized how poor he was
and how many people were just like him, could barely afford
food. Instead of keeping it all for himself he decided that if he
ever could, he would try to give to people that had nothing.
After his quick brainstorming session, he slowly walked into the
castle. The architecture was amazing, not quite human-like but
breathtaking. The ceiling was high and domed with jewels
everywhere, equally spaced. The walls were coated with circles
of gold bits. The floor was made of smooth stone which felt
comfortable, and the air, it smelt and tasted slightly metallic
but very pleasant.

Oh, hello, hello!
Jack, who now felt powerful and careless wandered through
the castle, until suddenly, he heard mumbling, deep, loud
mumbling. He slowly but swiftly crept towards the sound and
there he saw what he could not believe. There was a giant. Not
a huge person or anything, but a real, genuine GIANT. It
looked at him.
"Uhhhhhhh," mumbled Jack.
"Oh hello, hello!" exclaimed the giant. "Who are you, young
creature?"
"Um, uh, I'm uh Jack." stammered Jack, stunned by the giant's
loud, booming voice.

"Why, Jack, welcome!" said the giant. "I'm Gibtanig and you
are the first one to find me after many, many years of being
trapped here."
Jack was frightened inside.
"I will reward you greatly, as you can see, I have lots of
valuable items."
Jack looked around and took in what the giant, Gibtanig, was
saying.

Just then Gibtanig went somewhere and when he returned to
Jack, he handed him a gold pitcher full of water, it was
surprisingly light despite it being full.
"Now go and don't come back, Jack," said Gibtanig.
"Okay, thanks," mumbled Jack quickly as he turned to walk
out.
He then went down the beanstalk slowly so he did not break
the gold pitcher. Jack thought about what had happened and
how he had gotten the gold pitcher, he he did not do anything
for the giant so why did the giant give him something so
valuable? Jack decided to sell the pitcher and make some
money out of it to get food.

When he reached his house, he was thirsty and thought it
would be good to pour himself some of the water in the
pitcher. As he poured the water, the water kept coming out but
the amount of water in the pitcher did not change. He poured
more water but the amount still did not change.
He thought about the idea of selling it and how much money he
could get, he and his mom would never go hungry again. Then
he thought about the people that did not have food, living on
the streets, they could have as much water as they wanted.

That afternoon Jack asked his mom if he could go help people,
still being angry with him she gave him permission but then
quickly walked away. As Jack was out on the streets, he felt
like he was doing something good, like he was accomplishing
something.
He gave everyone as much water as they wanted and they all
thanked him. Then the thought occurred to him, what about
getting something else from the giant? If the pitcher has an
unlimited amount of water, which he gave willingly, then he
must have other things that he could give Jack.
This made Jack get an irresistible urge to go up there again
and see if he could get anything else. So he decided that he
would go up the beanstalk again the next morning and talk to
the Gibtanig.
