The Bottlenose Dolphin

Bottlenose Dolphins are loved because they have been seen coming 

to the aid of people.

The brain of a Bottlenose Dolphin is very large compared to its 

body size.

The calves or baby Bottlenose Dolphins, 

stay with their mothers for 3-6 years 

to learn how to catch fish for food. 

A Bottlenose Dolphin's dorsal fin is found near the middle of 

their back.

Bottlenose Dolphins eat other marine animals like 

shrimp and squid.

Fishing equipment can be a danger to Bottlenose 

Dolphins because they have accidently gotten trapped 

by nets.

Bottlenose Dolphins travel in social

 groups called schools.

Bottlenose Dolphins hear better than humans do.

These dolphins can never fully sleep because 

they have to come to the surface about every 

7 minutes to inhale air to breathe.

Bottlenose Dolphins not only use their jaws to 

hold their teeth but also for sound to travel to 

their ears.

"Fish whacking" is when Bottlenose Dolphins 

whack a fish out of the water with their tail to 

eat them. This is how they hunt.

Bottlenose Dolphins can live up to 45 to 50 years.

These dolphins like humans are also mammals.

Bottlenose Dolphins have two flukes that make up 

the tail. These flukes are separated by the median 

notch.

They live in tropical oceans and other warm 

waters.

A Bottlenose Dolphin's flippers are used to help 

them stop and steer while swimming.

They have sensitive skin but when damaged it heals 

quickly.

Bottlenose Dolphins have been known to help other 

dolphins when injured or sick.

Bottlenose Dolphins can swim very fast.They can 

reach speeds of over 18 miles an hour.

These dolphins have a total of 72 to 104 teeth, 

which they use to grasp their food not chew.
